In summer, French roads see the formation of major traffic jams, favored by vacation departures and returns. The situation is particularly difficult around the end of July and beginning of August during the big holiday back-and-forths. Saturday, August 1st is identified as the reddest moment on the 2020 road calendar. To avoid this congestion, the recommendation would be to shift your trip, leave early, or plan a halfway stop. What do you think, do you have other tips to bypass these mass movements on summer roads?

    Hello.

One day I hit the road knowing it was a black day to go down to Limoges.

Big surprise, there weren’t many people on the road!

I had simply taken the Emerald Paris- Toulouse route.

However, when I came across a highway, it was rather busy.

Conclusion: you have to trust the secondary network, even if you spend more time in village crossings, you get to the destination without traffic jams and then you can admire the scenery.

      Hello,

It only makes sense if the natural terrain allows it without excessive detours or impassable roads (and that we assume everywhere the landscapes are admirable).

Suppose (not taking into account the also frequent delays on the secondary network, especially in summer due to tourism) that I want to go from Toulon to Annecy: 4h15 on the highway, 7h25 without, and if we imagined that I go further I would have already lost a day.

I am retired and I have nothing to do with my ten fingers except for date-imposed destinations; I had to do the route in question twice during the transhumance period (or even without, but roads closed due to an accident, fire, or whatever), it seems endless but it is mainly exasperating, we only lose
1h, 1h30, but you just keep doing the arithmetic...
