Why when I click on a cell in Excel it's the cell?

Hello, I'm using W11. In Excel, sometimes when I click on a cell, the adjacent cell lights up (sometimes two cells next to each other). What's happening?

    If you're in a ".xls" or ".xlsm" file, this may be normal with a VBA code that performs the action.

    If you simply open Excel with a blank file, that's not normal; you might need to repair the Office suite.

    Otherwise, I don't see what it could be.
