How to recover a corrupted file

In Open Office, I had a spreadsheet for tracking expenses, the software reported a file corruption and offered to repair it, I accepted but the repaired sheet has no data at all!!

Is there a free solution to recover my data?

    Logically, you should be able to save yourself by reloading your backup... If you made one.

    What is this expense file on..?

    What did it suggest to you to repair..?? Open Office..?
