Hello everyone,

So, at home, I have an internet box with phone, television, etc., but I don't use the phone or the television, so my question is: is it possible to have Wi-Fi without having a box from any internet provider? I would just like to have Wi-Fi at home. Thank you for your answers.

Hello,

another one who confuses wifi and internet.

If you want internet, you need an internet subscription or a mobile network if you have little usage.

If you just want a wifi network for your home, you just buy a wifi access point, or you configure your PC or smartphone as an access point.

But the box you currently have does have a wifi access point, right?

And here we go ...

But what a pain those line breaks are!!

Actually, I want to cancel my internet box with television and phone services, and I'm just looking to have Wi-Fi at home, knowing that I don’t watch television or the rest.

Hello Philippe.

Having Wi-Fi at home is possible, with an access point, as Brupala said.

So, without a box, you will have no access to the outside.

The Wi-Fi access point acts simply as an interconnection system (but without wires), and unless it’s for testing purposes, the interest is minimal.

Yes, but as I was saying, you're confusing wifi and the internet:

you can have internet access without being connected to wifi, and you can connect to a wifi network without it being linked to the internet.

The internet is not television or telephone either; both can go through the internet network, but also through others.

The internet consists of websites like CCM, emails, and pretty much anything that allows for easy communication with the whole world.

Hello,

The WIFI in the house... for what? Mobile data works just fine to connect to the Internet and surf.

or not.

Mobile coverage is not guaranteed everywhere, especially indoors, and if you want to watch videos, it’s better to do it on Wi-Fi or Ethernet, for downloads too, plus updates or Windows versions that can eat up mobile data plans.

Mobile coverage, as its name suggests, is more about when you're on the go, not when you're at home.

And I’m not even talking about wanting to host an internet service.

Yes, I know that mobile data is sufficient to watch videos, but for example, if I want to watch Netflix or other videos from my phone using mobile data, my Chromecast or my smart TV, I can't connect them.

So, do you know how to share the Wi-Fi connection?

Creating a Wi-Fi hotspot with your mobile...

Where does it get stuck when you try to connect them?

Yes, that's it, I know how to share my connection but I can't connect my TV or my Chromecast.

Connect them to the mobile wifi network or to the internet?

Are you able to connect other devices?
