Obsolete Mac version Sierra 10.13

Hello everyone. I have a Mac that's about ten years old with version Sierra 10.13.6. My browser is Safari, which is no longer updated since my Sierra version is obsolete. Many websites no longer work with Safari. I've turned to Google Chrome, but it too is not receiving updates since my browser is outdated.

It's really a vicious circle.

Is there a way to download another browser that will last at least a few years?

I have 8 GB of memory.

Is there a solution other than buying a new Mac?

Thank you for your responses.

    Good evening,

Just for your information, macOS version 10.13 is not Sierra, but High Sierra... Sierra being macOS version 10.12... that said, it doesn't really help you, I agree.

The "solution" for you, if we can call it that, would be to use a particular version of Firefox instead of Safari. That is to say, this version:

    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/115.7.0/system-requirements/

    78.15.0esr.dmg

I haven't tested it for quite some time, but it's still worth testing.

PS: depending on the very exact age of the Mac, it might potentially go beyond macOS 10.13.

    Best regards.

    Hello Francis,

I used Firefox on my Mac Pro running 10.11, 2 or 3 days ago, without any problems.

When it's urgent, it's already too late (Talleyrand)
When everything has failed, read the manual or come to CCM;)

    Hello

I'm sorry if I haven't been back to the site for a long time. (The holidays, the flu...)

    Thank you for your response.

I just saw on the Mozilla support site that Firefox ESR 115 will end in March 2025. After that, no security updates will be provided.

So I won't be too far ahead in March.

Do you have any other solutions or are there none? Thank you.

    Hello,

The "solution," the one I use on my old iMac, is to use Google Chrome in the version for macOS 10.13:

    Best regards.

    Thanks anyway for your responses.

    Hello,

I have an iMac that, like yours, is stuck on High Sierra (10.13.6) and since I had to give up Safari, I’ve been using Firefox without any issues.

    Hello everyone,

    - I first mentioned, earlier, the version of Firefox that can replace Safari

    - Then, further down, I mentioned Google Chrome, why? Because I've learned that even Firefox will inevitably and quickly become obsolete with respect to several websites, as no development has been made on it for a long time and none will be made, and for now, Google Chrome seems "less obsolete".

That said, I imagine even Chrome will eventually die under High Sierra. For this, I had then tested Open Core Legacy Patcher to install the Monterey version of macOS, following these instructions.

It worked well. But for other reasons (notably software compatibility), I reverted to High Sierra.
