Hello,
As I cannot respond to the previous messages on the subject and using Google Docs for convenience and free access for my university work, I am here not to ask a question, but to provide an answer.
The angle quotation marks being automatically replaced by American ones and the input character being the double quotation mark ( " ) suitable for the opening and closing quotation mark symbol, to replace them easily with the correct symbol, we can substitute them with a simple trick while keeping only the key corresponding to ".
In the tab tools > preferences, once the window is open, choose the right tab substitution, and replace as follows:
- replace ” with «
- replace ”” with [space]»
- replace .”” with .[space]»
To enter the quotation marks in preferences, there are two options:
- Copy and paste the symbol
- Use keyboard shortcuts:
- For the French double closing quotation mark »: Alt+0187
- For the French double opening quotation mark «: Alt+0171
Thus, you will have an opening quotation mark as soon as you press " followed by [space].
And at the end of a sentence or term to be enclosed, you just need to type the English quotation marks ("") twice for them to be replaced by a closing quotation mark preceded by a space as required by the syntax, regardless of whether there is a period before or not.
Hoping this will be useful to you.
