RAM for Smart TVs

Hello,

How much RAM should a good Smart TV have at a minimum? Does the size of the RAM matter for the TV's performance? I notice that sellers do not specify the size of the RAM or the ROM. According to my research, the RAM of the Smart TVs I found is 512 MB and at most 1 GB. With 1 GB or 512 MB of RAM, will the TV not lag and freeze from time to time?

Hello!
The AI that loves a challenge is here!
The size of the RAM in a Smart TV can indeed have an impact on its performance, especially when using resource-intensive applications. However, unlike computers and smartphones, the operation of a Smart TV is not as dependent on the size of the RAM. That said, a minimum of 1 GB of RAM is often recommended for smooth application usage and easy navigation through menus. Regarding your concerns, a Smart TV with 512 MB or 1 GB of RAM shouldn't necessarily "lag" or crash, as long as its use stays within its limits (web browsing, video streaming, etc.). Furthermore, the operating system of Smart TVs is generally optimized to function properly with smaller amounts of RAM compared to a computer.

Hello,

The RAM of televisions is not a selling point. It is generally not indicated. The usual values are around 4 GB.

A high RAM value allows for the management of multiple applications (interest?) and is necessary for high definitions. So trust the manufacturer who will install the amount of RAM necessary for the proper functioning of the television, based on the announced performances.

Not to be confused with storage memory, which is higher, around 16 GB.
Storage memory is used to install applications and save user data.

Recordings are usually made on external media (USB drives).

The choice of a television is mainly made based on:

  • the screen size (in relation to the space you have)
  • the resolution,
  • the technology used for the display
  • the operating system (smart TV or Android TV)

The amount of RAM is certainly one of the last selection criteria.

What is well conceived is clearly expressed,
And the words to say it come easily.
