Cannot share between my MacBook and my iMac

Hello, I want to connect my two devices to be able to take documents from one PC to another, but it's impossible. I have already performed the following manipulation:

System Preferences, then on Sharing, Content and Media "turn on" File Sharing (on both devices)

But nothing happens, I see nothing under "Location"

My MacBook Pro and iMac are running macOS Sonoma V14.5

How could I resolve this situation?

Thank you in advance

In a Finder window, at the bottom left, you have a "Network" link that should give you access to all devices on the local network. You double-click on the icon of your other Mac and connect to it. You might even enable screen sharing (depending on the situation that suits you).

Is that how you proceed? If not, how do you go about it? What do you observe?

Good evening,

As Aliboron seems to be absent for the moment, I will intervene...

- In the Finder settings, please ensure that all these boxes are checked to have "Network" in the Finder sidebar:

Then, to better understand where you are in a Finder window, enable the visibility of the path bar:

Next, to move up in the folder hierarchy, enable this icon in the Finder menu bar (right-click on the menu bar to customize it).

After that, try to show us what appears when you expand this icon.

And if, on one of the Macs, you see the other one, try to connect to it after selecting and using the Connect button...

Best of luck

I don't have "Network" in the left sidebar, and if I don't access the top bar, the "Network" file is empty. I've sent you images from my iMac.

I did exactly as you told me, but I’m at the same stage.

Hello,

Now, when you click on the Network icon, you should see the other Mac, provided of course that file sharing is also enabled on that other Mac and that it is not in sleep mode or that network activities wake it up (on older macOS versions in system preferences = Energy Saver / Wake for network access), current macOS = :

"I think he detected something earlier because he told me that the local host name will be changed to flavien-2." I got a "network" icon that appeared, I clicked on it and my iMac was there. I clicked on "Connect as..." It tried to connect and showed me "Connection failed" at the top right instead of "Connecting." I then tried a second time and it displayed this.

Since that message, the mention "network" is no longer displayed.

So I connected both PCs to my hotspot and it showed up on both sides, whereas earlier only my MacBook detected it. Now both did, but I'm in another mess because it displays this.

No matter if I try with the password from the iMac or the MacBook, nothing changes; it just doesn't want to connect. I don't get any messages, just the display tab that moves as if indicating a wrong password, while they are correct.

Hello,

The identifiers, username and password, to be used in this window must correspond to those of the Mac you’re trying to reach. Of course, on the target Mac, in the file sharing settings, the authorized username must either be specified or set to "everyone."

How are your machines connected? Are both connected to the same internet box that serves as a router? Via Wifi or Ethernet?
