Sound interference in a wired headset

Hello,

I have a wired Sennheiser headset with three black bands on the jack plug. I use it to listen to music on my smartphone (Samsung A) via a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, but as soon as I plug it in, I hear unwanted noise and crackling in the headset even without playing any music.

Could this be coming from the adapter?

Thanks a million!

Hello

I see a possible issue: since your headset has 3 rings, one of them is for the mic. The adapter doesn't support that, so it connects the mic and one of the headphones to the same connector, causing those interferences.

If you have another headset with 2 black rings, check if the problem persists.

In any case, this is purely a hardware issue; unless you put a thin layer of tape on the male connector at the bottom side of the cable (DIY/20), you'll need to change the adapter.

Thank you very much for your response, which I believe is accurate. I don't have another headset with 2 pins, but I tried tape, and it doesn't really hold, although I feel a slight improvement.

Can I try removing the 3rd pin?

It will be irreversible and at the risk of simply breaking it. Changing the adapter is the safest and cheapest solution of all.
