Hello community,

Thank you in advance for taking the time to consider my request.

Let me explain my problem:

I am currently creating a site piqueetponce.fr with the mywebsitenow solution from ionos.

I have encountered various issues, but one in particular is bothering me and I would like to have more information about the origin of this problem before calling the technical service of ionos.

After numerous attempts with different people, different providers, and different phones, the problem remains the same: the connection to the site is possible over wifi but not on 4G (screenshot error message attached).

I managed to resolve the issue on my phone by changing some data on my mobile access point:

- The authentication type was set to PAP, I changed it to none

- The APN type included default, mms, xcap, I added hipri and supl (not dun)

- The APN protocol was set to IPv6, I changed it to IPv4

- The APN roaming protocol was set to IPv4/IPv6, I changed it to IPv4

I don’t know if this could affect the functioning of my phone, but in any case, I can now connect to the site on both 4G and wifi. I even noticed an improvement in connectivity.

I replicated these changes on the mobile phones of my relatives and the problem was resolved in the same way.

Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem for all the people on mobile data who want to connect to my site and who will receive the message "site inaccessible, check your internet connection."

Does anyone have an idea of the origin of the problem and possibly a technical solution?

Thank you for your responses.

Best regards,

Sébastien

I didn't fully understand your approach there ...

    "

-The APN protocol was on IPv6, I switched it to IPv4

-The APN roaming protocol was on IPv4/IPv6, I changed it to IPv4 "

*** Do you think an average internet user will perform such manipulations???

Reset EVERYTHING to zero and try other methods of reflection, notably by deleting all your WP to see if the configuration is correct (you only put a small index.html file for example)

it will be much simpler that way

*** like the others, no difficulty accessing the work-in-progress page, nor even the robots.txt file on PC or Android :)

      Hello bg62,

      Thank you for your response.

I’m an average internet user and I’m doing what I can to understand and do...

So WP stands for WordPress? I’m on a Mywebsitenow plan, so the basic setup is all Ionos... and too average to use developer tools unless I have a step-by-step guide.

Yes, I think you’re right and that’s certainly what they’ll do to solve it. Could I do it myself with my access or not?

In the meantime, I will gather as many details as possible about the source of the errors reported, as yg_be advised me.

Thanks for the feedback in any case.

      Have a good evening

    Hello,

cutting off IPv6 is stupid in 2024, Ionos supports IPv6 very well.

You are on the wrong track with your trial-and-error method without knowing what the real issue is.

Especially since most home Wi-Fi networks also use IPv6.

Finally, if your site is not listed in IPv6 at the DNS level (AAAA record), nobody will try to connect to it via IPv6.

A SSL/TLS issue is not a network problem, it's a poor site configuration.

Discussion to be held in webmaster/hosting, please, Bazfile.

    And there you go....

But misery, how annoying these line spaces are!!

      Hello Brupala,

      Thank you for your response.

So even though it's pointless in 2024 to turn off IPv6, my domain name is registered in AAAA, thus associated with an IPv6 address, and the only way for me to connect to the site on mobile data is to set IPv4 as the APN value and IPv4 as the roaming APN value, and then I can connect without any issues in 4G even with a weak signal, and the same goes for those who were kind enough to test it for me in the different locations mentioned in the second post.

I tried setting IPv4/IPv6 on both = site inaccessible. Same for IPv6 on both = site inaccessible.

I might be on the wrong track as you said, or not, I’m searching in any case, and that’s the purpose of my post, to reach out to qualified and competent people who can shed light on the situation.

I got this today https://zupimages.net/viewer.php?id=24%2F16%2Fxdtv.jpg while the site is https... and this in downtown Tours https://zupimages.net/viewer.php?id=24%2F16%2Fxdtv.jpg.

So you are probably right, Brupala, about the misconfiguration of the site...

I hope Ionos will detect the problem and resolve it quickly; otherwise, there’s no point in publishing this site if most people can only connect via Wi-Fi.

I just wanted to be a bit informed before calling them.

If there are any other leads with this information, I’m open to suggestions.

Thank you for taking the time to respond in any case.

      Have a good evening.

I have no trouble accessing this site, including on mobile.
It may just have been a delay in the DNS information propagation.

    Hello.

I think your problem is more related to the 4G network which is very poor at your place; in your screenshots, we can see that you only have one bar. I tried to connect to your site and I had no issues either on WiFi or 4G/5G, I just got a "site under construction" page.

You should do a speed test on 4G with your phone; in my opinion, your speed shouldn't be very high.

    Hello Bazfile,

Thank you for the quick response.

The screenshots did not come from my phone; it’s an external test, and since the changes to the APN settings, there have been no issues with 4G, even though I followed your advice and the results are disastrous in my countryside with the Ookla speed test; once again, there are no issues since the modifications.

It is therefore difficult for me to rule out the network as a possibility, especially since the feedback from Safari mentions security.

We tested in different locations, including Tours city center, Poitiers city center, Bordeaux city center, places that do not show any persistent problems with 4G/5G.

To this end, I am sending you two reports from iPhones in Poitiers (1) and Paris (2) with 4 bars…

    2- https://zupimages.net/viewer.php?id=24%2F15%2Fgagg.jpg

I have analyzed the SSL certificate with a positive feedback from https://www.httpcs.com/fr/tester-certificat-ssl, which is correctly installed and validated.

    Any other leads, please?

    Thanks again, Bazfile.

    Hello yg_be,

    Thank you for the response.

What are your APN values and roaming APN set to? IPv4, IPv6, or IPv4/IPv6?

I take good note of your suggestion, so we would be back to the site's misconfiguration.

Any other ideas, particularly regarding the response of "this site is not https"?

    Have a good evening

      I tested ipv4 and ipv6, no problem.

The general approach is, starting from an identified issue, especially if it can be reproduced, to gather information.

For example, from an error message displayed by a browser, retrieve detailed information about the source of the error message.

It's up to you to work on obtaining this information.

In reality, you have (at least) four sites, and browsers often hide from the user which exact site is being contacted:

        1. http://piqueetponce.fr
        2. http://www.piqueetponce.fr
        3. httpw://piqueetponce.fr
        4. httpw://www.piqueetponce.fr

Some of these sites may not respond as expected by the browser.

        it's https, not httpw

OK I understand, so each one plays a role between the moment I send my request and the arrival on the homepage of my site, one does not go without the other, right?

No, it is possible that, among the four, some work and others do not.
