Schneider SDV 434 DVD Player: stuck on LOAD or STANDBY

Hello,

I wanted to use my (old) Schneider DVD player to play a DVD, and it was making a screeching noise without opening. I opened it and saw that the belt was broken in two (not surprising given the age of the player...). I ordered a new one and replaced it.

However, another problem persists. Once powered on, the player starts spinning, and the screen displays "LOAD". When I press the eject button on the player, the screen then shows "STANDBY", but the disk keeps spinning. After that, no matter how many times I press the power, eject, or stop button, it keeps spinning. The only way to stop it is to unplug the device.

Do you have a solution to suggest, even if this kind of problem is no longer of our time?

    Hello,

    The shelves are not good for these devices. The belt is something visible, but for the rest of the device, everything happens in the shadow of the circuits...

    It is very likely that the reading head is no longer functioning, it does not read the message engraved at the beginning of the DVD and remains stuck on "LOAD" which never ends.

    If it is dust or atmospheric deposits on the lens, a gentle cleaning could improve the situation... with a "cotton swab" and a little alcohol, on the reading lens, you need to take out the tray to see it. It might work..??

    Be careful: do not touch with fingers, do not force or press on it, only on the surface of the lens...

    These devices also require a little time to adjust to the room temperature, especially if they were in the basement beforehand.

      thank you for your response.

      I cleaned the lens, but it hasn't changed anything; the disc continues to spin and colored lines are appearing on the screen (I hadn't mentioned this in my first message).

      I still don't know if I'm going to try replacing this lens or not.

      This device was kept in the living room but wasn't used, so I don't think the room temperature is related to this problem.

    Your problem doesn't seem irreparable. We need to find a solution to replace that Power button.

    It's already very good that you found a similar belt and replaced it.
    Don't try to mess with the lens, you could shift, misalign, or misadjust it... at least for now!

      thank you for your reply.

      However, I don't think the problem comes from the button, because when I press the button to turn off the player, the display changes from LOAD to STANDBY, which for me means that the device is still receiving the stop signal. The issue might be with the reading lens as mentioned earlier by @jeannets.

      I have cleaned the lens but it hasn't changed anything; the disc keeps spinning and colored lines appear on the screen (I didn't mention this in my first message).

      I don't know yet if I will try to replace this lens or not.

      I'm not looking to buy a new DVD player, I just want to try and fix it because it's fun for me (and also to watch the old DVDs available on-site).

      A adjusting screw is located at the lens: try it, but it may take some time before achieving the desired result.

    It's mainly its adjustment that needs to be done, but there, hello the mess!

    A lens doesn't wear out, ever. It's its ultra-precise position that may have shifted.
    You need specific tools to adjust a lens, so let's be clear, you won't be able to do it. You're not equipped for that!
    But it's repairable, of course, the only question is how much that will cost?
