Marshall / Marley Turntable RCA Connection

Marie -
 Marie -

Hello, I have a Marleybet turntable and a Marshall speaker (Stanmore II). For two years, I had no problem connecting via RCA to the turntable and jack to the speaker. Since a move (during which I protected everything thoroughly), the connection is no longer working. New cartridge, new RCA/Jack cable, and even a double RCA. I can no longer connect my turntable to my speaker.
Can anyone help me please?
Thank you in advance,

Marie

Hello Marie,

"Since a move (...), the connection no longer works":
► since the move, really?

Where is the preamp in this story, on the turntable?
In this setup, the weak point is the wire between the stylus (diamond) and the input of the board (probably on the preamp).

Good luck!

Hello Txiki,

Yes, I promise it worked very well before :)

So, I do have a button on the "pre-amp" plate for on/off; I tested all the configurations and nothing works.

Hello,

On the turntable, the preamp switch must be in the ON position.

On the speaker, you need to select the input used with the "Source" button:
RCA if using RCA/RCA cable between the turntable and speaker
AUX if using RCA/jack cable between the turntable and speaker.

The turntable has a headphone jack at the front. Have you tried plugging in a headphone or a phone headset to see if you get sound from the turntable?

Have you tried connecting a phone with a jack/jack cable to the AUX jack of the speaker? Does it work?

If the volume is medium on the speaker, when you unplug the RCA cables from the turntable and touch the metal tips (red or white) with your fingers, does the speaker make any noise...

Hello Baladur13,

On the turntable, the preamp switch should be set to ON —> OK

On the speaker, you need to select, using the "Source" button, the input being used:
RCA if you have an RCA/RCA cable between the turntable and the speaker
AUX if you have an RCA/jack cable between the turntable and the speaker.

—> OK

The turntable has a headphone jack at the front. Have you tried plugging in headphones or phone earbuds to see if you get sound from the turntable?

—> no sound with the headphones

Have you tried connecting a phone with a jack/jack cable to the AUX jack of the speaker? Does it work?

—> I can’t test it yet (I don’t have the cable)

If the volume is medium on the speaker, you disconnect the RCA cables from the turntable and touch the metal tips, red or white, with your fingers, does the speaker make a sound...

—> YES

Another piece of info, when the speaker volume is in the middle, I feel like the sound is coming from the turntable/vinyl. And when the speaker volume is all the way up, there is a humming + faint music sound.
I’m not sure if my explanations are clear enough…

Thank you for your help

If the speaker buzzes when you touch the ends of the RCA cables, then the speaker is not the issue.

It seems quite abnormal to me that you have no sound from the headphone jack...

There is certainly a problem with the turntable, the cartridge or stylus (diamond) not really in place.

Hello Baladur13,

tests conducted this weekend with my cousin's turntable and speaker. My speaker works perfectly on his turntable. So the speaker is not the issue.
however, the turntable is dead. I will find out if someone can check inside. In our opinion, that must be where the problem is.
thanks again for your help :)

The turntable has a problem, that's for sure.

You wrote: "New diamond," check that it is properly in place and that no issues are visible on the playback head.

Hi baladur13 (and Marie),
Don't forget that she replaced the diamond "New diamond, new RCA/Jack cable and even a double RCA"!

Either it is incompatible (I don't think so) or it is poorly assembled!
Good luck!

Hello,

That's why I say to make sure that the "new diamond" is indeed in place.

Hello,

.

In this photo <13>, check if the terminals of the cell are properly secured.

There may be a poor connection at this level.

.

Best regards

Hello Marie (I’m just kidding... hee hee hee, a Basque joke)

Unfortunately! The photos aren’t helpful here!
Rather put the photo of the diamond, connector side. That’s probably where the problem lies.
The contact is no longer happening. That’s the only possibility I see.

► Have you tried putting the old one back to see? (just be careful).

Good luck!

Hello!

News of the day, I went to FNAC with my turntable for them to run tests and a diagnosis. So it's really dead. To repair it (out of warranty) it's €150 for the flat fee plus labor and parts... So I might be looking to buy a new one... Either the same model because I liked it a lot, nice design, good sound, quite sturdy (laughs anyway) or I might go for the Audiotec AT-LP60XBT model.

Do you have any opinions on the latter?

Thanks to both of you: Txiki & Baladur13 for your help!
