How to convert an Excel file to ODS format
SolvedPascale -
Hello,
I installed Open Office a few years ago and mostly use the spreadsheet program. I have about a hundred files in this spreadsheet, some of which are the result of hundreds of hours of work.
Today, when I tried to open an old file created in Excel, I received a message from Microsoft saying that I needed to type in the Excel software key or log in to continue. I don't have Excel and I wanted to exit that file. Unfortunately, the file was blocked by Excel and I couldn't close it or open other files. I had no choice but to click on the buttons that were offered. Which I did.
But once I clicked on it, I realized that all my tables created with the ".ods" extension (Open Office) were all converted to Excel files!!!! But what is even stranger is that when I open Open Office and load my tables from that software, they are all there. I can open them. But when I go to the folder that contains all my tables, they all appear with the ".ods" extension, but with the "Excel" logo. And all my files are blocked by Excel!!!!! So I can no longer work on them.
So here is my question: how can I convert all these Excel files back to Open Office files?
Thank you in advance for your answers
PS: I’m not very good at computers, so please avoid using overly technical terms!

Hello
It is quite surprising that your .ods files have turned into .xlsx
But it's possible that during your manipulations, you assigned .ods files to Excel which changed the default program and their icons.
To restore things, right-click on a file, from the menu, choose Open With > Choose another app...
Check the box at the bottom "Always use this app..." and select OpenOffice.
OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/) is not very up to date, its unhappy designers after being bought by Oracle created LibreOffice (https://fr.libreoffice.org/) on the same basis but better maintained and up to date and 100% compatible with OpenOffice.
