How to open .AAE files

Hello,

My iCloud storage on my iPhone is almost full.

I imported photos from my iPhone to store them on my PC but I can't open them because they are in AAE format? I tried with Gimp, with Word, but it doesn't work.

I'm a beginner in computing and in iPhone.

What should I do?

Hello,

AAE files are specific to iOS and do not contain any photos, only the modification history of the associated photo.

The photo itself is in JPG format in older iOS versions, HEIC in newer ones, and those are the ones that need to be transferred, and in the latter case, that's where the trouble will begin.

Windows can only read HEIC starting from Windows 10, and only if the appropriate extension is installed from the Microsoft Store or a codec like CopyTransHEIC is installed.
