Broken laptop

Hello, I just realized that the left hinge allowing me to open and close my laptop is broken. Also, my laptop splits in two when I open or close it. After disassembling it, I found out that the fastening of the folding part had broken (see photo). I tried to glue it back, but it doesn't work and the broken part acts as a lever, which is causing my laptop to malfunction. Thank you in advance.

Hello,

I suppose it’s your screw holes that are stripped, so the screws no longer grip in them.

First, check if the hinge works, it's very stiff, so we need to detach it from the screen and the PC. Then we test its opening with two pliers, doing it by hand is really hard.

If it doesn't work, we'll look for one on eBay.

If it works, you have several options.

The easiest is eBay, where you can buy a lower shell that fits your PC.

The workaround:

The first option is to pour plastic into the screw holes or fill them with strong glue, maybe even PVC pipe glue, and let it dry for at least 3 days. The idea is to refill the screw hole so you can screw into it again later.

The second option, the quickest but not the best because it can't be removed without a struggle, is to drill the screw holes with a small bit to come out underneath, remove the screws, and rivet the piece and the shell together with rivets. To do this kind of work, we'll take out the components and just work on the shell and the hinge.
