Zorin OS Installation Issue
Hello,
Following an issue with Windows 10 that I can no longer launch on my computer, I have decided to turn to Linux, particularly Zorin.
Unfortunately, when I try to proceed with the installation, I get this error message:
Partitions 2, 4 have been written, but we have been unable to inform the kernel of the change, probably because they are in use. As a result, the old partitions will remain in use. You should reboot now before making further changes. I have done some research before coming to this forum, which has not been conclusive. I am attaching a Boot-info here so you have more information.

Hello,
Can you clarify the following points?
- How do you proceed to install ZorinOS? I have the impression that you created an installation CD and booted from it (/dev/sdb)
- Do you want to only have Linux on your PC or are you looking to do a dual boot Windows / ZorinOS? This will affect the partitioning.
- If you want to do a simple Windows / Linux boot, you need to:
- back up the Windows documents that you care about,
- delete the Windows partitions /dev/sda (and hence the files they contain)
- create the necessary partitions when installing ZorinOS (typically, a 4GB swap partition, a 25GB / partition in ext4, and the rest for /home in ext4)
- If you want to do a dual boot, you need to shrink the Windows partitions so that they do not occupy the entire hard drive. Then during installation, we create the Zorin OS partitions in the vacant space.
- If you want to do a simple Windows / Linux boot, you need to:
- When does the error message at the beginning appear? When trying to install ZorinOS? I have the impression that you are attempting to install ZorinOS... on the CD ROM (/dev/sdb)!
Good luck
