I sometimes watch movies on free streaming sites.

Can someone tell me how these sites are funded?

Is it by collecting confidential data from the files on the computer?

They are paid through the advertisements you see while watching the film or series.

Or from those present on the pages of the site.

It all depends on the site.

And it's an ad that they're suggesting you click on.

So I close the ad tab.

Hello

Normally, these sites don't have access to your files on your computer.
It's not P2P (Peer To Peer) either.
Unless you catch a virus that affects your PC... I don't see how.

Otherwise, in general; it's through the advertisements on there (that's how they make money)
They can also sell their traffic to groups to analyze the interests of those who visit their site.
And finally, sell your personal information if you ever sign up (selling email addresses)

And if you don't have an ad blocker & antivirus, you can quickly end up with endless pop-ups or even little viruses (links leading to other links automatically until something installs on your PC)

And of course, the ads are generally adult content.
So be careful; and add an ad blocker to your browser (uBlock or Adblock, etc.)

I'm watching 1jour 1film online.

I find the quality excellent and the series and movies very recent. As a result,

I became concerned about how they make money.

I was worried about my personal information, like banking, etc...
