Hello,

Like many probably, I find myself helpless in front of the infamous blue screen.
I need help finding the cause of this BSOD and fixing it all!

My PC (gamer): I5 11600K / 32 GB / RTX4070

Context: everything was working fine until Diablo4 arrived. The problem is that now, even without launching D4, or even BattleNet, my PC crashes for no reason. I thought I could test another game to see if it was just D4, and it crashes (with Wolcen).

I’ve done all the updates, RAM tests, disk checks, etc., and nothing...

Could someone help me? Is there a program that tests the PC and detects flaws?

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hello everyone,

Thank you all for your advice!
The problem seems to be solved after a lot of headaches!

It was "simply" a matter of flashing the BIOS from version 1.0 to 1.8!

Wishing everyone the best and thanks again for your valuable advice!

    Antoine

This afternoon, I launched WhoCrashed and it detected and analyzed my 5 dumpfiles. Among the suggestions I read: "full memory dump may help you". So I did the following:

Control Panel/System/Advanced system settings/Startup and recovery/Settings/Debug information format/Complete memory dump (instead of partial 256kb).
When the next crash occurred, the BSOD was stuck at 10%. I rebooted and then, I couldn't read my dumpfiles with WhoCrashed anymore.
I then set it back to Partial memory dump (256KB).

Another BSOD happened and here is the result from WhoCrashed:

By using BlueScreenView, I got this:

    And this:

I also used the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool to test my CPU.
    Everything is okay.
But after a few seconds… BSOD!!!
I ran an "Intel CPU diagnostic" again: everything is okay but this time, no crash.

Another interesting point following a CPU stress test via OCCT.

My CPU is around 40°c. As soon as I start the test, it rapidly climbs to 90° (I've set a safety feature to stop the test once 90° is reached). How can I tell if the cooler is doing its job properly?

Hello, have you checked the logs?

    Windows + R

    Eventvwr

On the left, system, and on the right, filter the log for Critical.

You will see the details of the errors in the middle at the bottom.

If there's an error, it indicates it's the processor driver.

    PSHDE.DLL

    https://www.intel.fr/content/www/fr/fr/products/sku/212275/intel-core-i511600k-processor-12m-cache-up-to-4-90-ghz/downloads.html

Choose based on your version of Windows

    Thank you for the suggestion.

    Here is the result Eventvwr:

    General tab:

    Details tab:

Then I followed, based on your advice, the link for the processor driver.
In the OS selection, there is no win 11 PROFESSIONAL!
So I downloaded win 11 home (the only win11 driver available) and initiated the installation.
    Error, it wouldn’t install anything.

    Error 41 (63)

    Power supply overload.

Power supply issue, may not be powerful enough for Diablo which requires a lot of resources.

    Also check in:

    C:\windows\minidump

    Post the file here

My power supply: Be Quiet Straight Power 11 - 750W - Gold

    I don't think that's the issue.

      Post this file

      C:\Windows\Minidump

      For example:

      https://filetransfer.io/

And check the power supply voltages and others with:

      https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/6617-cpuid-hwmonitor-portable-32-64bit/

      Send feedback

        Hi

I agree, with an RTX 4070 a 750w power supply is sufficient but it's also worth doing tests with OCCT to potentially highlight this point.

    .dmp files:

As for checking the voltages, I don't know how to do it.
I launched the .exe and made a capture (below):

Did you change keyboards or do you have another one to test????

Try updating the driver or changing the port to see...

And make sure to update your graphics card driver!:

For the keyboard, I'm surprised by the comment ?!?
Yes, I have another one on hand. I'll test it ;)
But out of curiosity, what makes you think the keyboard could be the source of my BSOD issues?

Finally, I downloaded and ran drivereasy. It surprisingly found 14 updates.
Again, I’m surprised. How is it that Windows Update didn’t notice anything?!?

Not having the pro version, I’m downloading between 50 and 60kb/s...
I’ll do this, plug in another keyboard, reboot the PC, and try to launch a game to see if it crashes.
Any other suggestions before I do this?

    Another basic question...
How do you install a driver from a downloaded folder?
For example, I just downloaded the Intel(r) 500 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller.
It puts it in a folder "uopguhtf.j3p" containing the following:

EDIT: I just found this link for driver installation.
    https://www.drivereasy.com/help55/manually-install-drivers-in-windows-10/
    I'm working on it ^^

    Here’s where I stand:

All the drivers via drivereasy have been updated except for (how convenient...) the Intel(r) Watchdog Timer Driver.

I don’t know where to find it in Device Manager. I tried under System Device/System Clock, but it tells me that the current driver is newer...

Test by launching a game (Diablo 4). After 20 to 30 seconds, BSOD.

    WhoCrashed :

    Here is the dumpfile: https://filetransfer.io/data-package/1hCzfpzW#link

A thought that crosses my mind:
What if there's an issue with the thermal paste?
I'm saying this just in case, but the PC was purchased at the end of August 2021... and has been kept well packed in its box until a month ago!
I bought an RTX4070 (as it didn't have a GPU). The installation was done by Materiel.net.
Could it be possible that the thermal paste has dried out during all this inactivity?
How can I check without causing damage?

The only way to ensure that is to replace the dough.

It's enough to make you pull your hair out... I spent my whole day on it.
Still no leads... and even less result. :(

The PC runs fine as long as I don't strain the CPU (office work, internet, and movies).

Have you tried setting Diablo to low resolution?

      Video settings option and low?

      Close all background applications too.

      Disable xmp in the bios,

If possible, a bios update as well

      Your cpu is overheating
