Installing my box in the garage.

Hello, I am very incompetent in terms of wiring, so I might use the wrong terms, but I will try to be as clear as possible;

My ADSL box, the Bbox, is currently in my living room. I have an RJ45 socket in my bedroom where my PC is, and I am trying to get a wired Ethernet connection. I tried with my cable and it didn't work. I was told that I needed to connect the box in my garage where I have my communication cabinet. However, I haven't found a patch panel with RJ45 ports. I only found the DTI Test box with just one RJ11 or RJ45 port, it seems. I will try to take a picture tomorrow, but my question is as follows: Is it possible that I don't have a patch panel in my communication cabinet, knowing that my house dates back to 2015, or did I just not look properly?

      Hello,

A photo of this same box, but open would be more useful.

If there is a patch panel, it must be inside the box.

Unscrew the 4 screws located at the 4 corners of the box to remove the plastic cover.

Thank you very much, I wanted to do it but I wasn't sure so I'm going to unscrew it and I'll let you know, thank you so much.

I opened it and here’s what I found: the DTI cables seem to go down, but I don’t know how to open this part.

    Hello,

in 2015, unfortunately, it’s possible that you don’t have any patching, so you would need to add patch RJ45s and probably redo the wiring for the wall RJ45s.

But indeed, we can’t tell you more if the cover of the cabinet is closed.

Do you have a fiber connection or ADSL?

If you have fiber, you may need to add a switch to the communication cabinet because your box should stay next to the PTO, unless you relocate it to the cabinet.

    And there you go ....

But goodness, how annoying are the line spacings!!

    You didn't respond:

Are you on fiber or ADSL?

Your DTI seems to be connected to the telephone distribution frame, the small red block next to it, and from there a pair of each cable goes to the wall sockets, so it’s a setup only for the phone at this level.

What's strange is that you appear to have 3 PTT298 cables and two CAT5 cables, were 2 sockets added later?

But the icing on the cake is that the DTI doesn't even seem to be used and the line (the black cable) is directly routed to a wall socket via the Scotchlocks at the top right, a move probably essential since ADSL and especially VDSL don't like star wiring for phones, and connecting a socket directly provides much more stability, although it would have been cleaner to do that in the DTI rather than through Scotchlocks next to it.

Anyway, everything needs to be re-cabled and add some patch RJ45s for Ethernet.

And there you go, here it is ....

But misery, how annoying the line spacing is!!

        Oh yes,

BBOX ADSL, I had missed that part :-(

The idea would therefore be to add 5 RJ45 patch panels to be mounted on the DIN rail, we will need to plan for one more for the telephone line by removing the DTI which takes up all the space, next to the TV splitter.

For the fiber, it can be replaced with a PTO on a DIN module.

I see, so this will cost me a lot, I think. Will buying a router and plugging it into the RJ45 socket in my room and connecting my PC via Ethernet cable work since the ADSL should go through each socket or will there be an issue?

Not very expensive if you do it yourself, which is entirely possible.

A router won't be of any use to you, or else you should invest in a mesh Wi-Fi, but that will cost you much more than installing 4 or 5 outlets, and it's a shame not to make use of wall sockets when you have them and add something else next to it.

Also, it depends if you are a homeowner or a renter.

In itself, I think installing one outlet for my room is enough, but do you have a link to a video explaining how to install an RJ45 socket in its communication box and connect it to a socket in the house of my choice, please?

No video, but we have all the gear on this forum:

        first the principle:

        Then the socket connections:

At least for some of your cables, there are two with different colors.

        for the equipment:

        like this with keystone supports

And rewire your wall sockets as indicated above, explained many times on this forum.

Okay, I understand everything but we agree that I don't have a patch panel; if so, how do I install it? If not, where is it? A thousand thanks, the diagram is very clear.

I showed you the sockets to hang on the DIN rail of your communication cabinet, you're making space by removing the DTI, which is no longer useful, as well as the small telephone splitter.
