ASUS TUF RTX 3080 GPU OVERHEATING
Solvedfanou -
Hello,
I bought a RTX 3080 ASUS TUF GAMING, and the graphics card reaches 83° during games.
A real oven..
I have good airflow, and I have never OVERCLOCKED it.
But I bought it second-hand on LBC.
I wanted to know if there is a way to check if it has been overclocked using software, like Afterburner for overclocking.
What I'm trying to find out is if we can see if it has been overclocked on a software, and if we can undo that..
Google says that at idle it runs at 31°, and in games it reaches a maximum of 55-60°.
So I don’t quite understand and I really don’t want to lose it.
Thanks for your help!

Hello,
The temperature isn't insane, especially during gaming. Nvidia indicates a max temperature of 93° for this GPU.
You can use the GPU-Z software to check the frequencies,
Those provided by the manufacturer for TUF-RTX3080-10G-GAMING:
OC Mode - 1740 MHz (Boost Clock)
Gaming Mode (Default) - GPU Boost Clock: 1710 MHz, GPU Base Clock: 1440 MHz

Hello
83° for a 3080 under load is not a problem. You are far from its limit.
As for whether the card was overclocked by its previous owner, it's impossible to find out.
These models of cards are all equipped with automatic overclocking features (boost) provided by Nvidia. The base frequency is generally 1440 MHz and the boosted frequency is 1710 MHz for a 3080.
The only concern with a second-hand card of this type is if it has been used for mining; that is detrimental to its lifespan, and there are many available on the second-hand market since cryptocurrencies are on the decline.

According to the seller, it was only used for working with the Blender software.
To make fairly long and intense renders, it often ran at night.
On the graphics card, there is a small switch: Performance mode / Quiet Mode.
After trying this function, I didn't notice any difference in performance or cooling.
Thank you for your help.
Hello, 83°C is not dramatic for such a powerful card, however it is true that it would be better to keep it under 80°C. If you want to lower the temperature, the most effective way is undervolting, which is nothing more than optimizing the performance/power consumption ratio to the maximum. Your GPU will consume less energy, heat less, make less noise, and as a bonus, you will even achieve slightly better performance.
Hello
On Google, they say that at rest it runs at 31°, and under load it reaches a maximum of 55-60°.
This is on a completely different PC from yours. (If it doesn't want any noise, it keeps it cool).
83° in games.
Now that it's in your PC, overclocking is done or not done in your PC.
There isn't an overclocking done by the previous PC.
Sometimes the game installation software applies settings whether the game is launched or not, it's not always easy to understand what it does.
Sometimes the motherboard can also have "overclocking" buttons for the CPU or GPU.
Otherwise, 83° as mentioned above is not abnormal for this GPU, with your software you should be able to set the max temp not to exceed to your liking (90° if you want) and then make your own performance overclocking, undervolting, ventilation adjustments.
