Issues when playing in windowed fullscreen

Solved

Hello everyone!

When I play a borderless game, since formatting my PC, whenever I click, the taskbar appears and the desktop shows up for half a second. This makes playing borderless games impossible, and since many DX12 games do not have a fullscreen option, I can't even hope to play...

Also, when I try to play in windowed mode (what's there to lose...), the game icon in the taskbar appears and disappears with every click, as if Windows thinks I'm relaunching the program.

I don't know if anyone has had this issue before, but honestly, I haven't found any solution. I even tried reinstalling cleanly a second time, but nothing works.

I should mention that after the formatting, everything was working fine until Windows forced me to install an update that brought all this back. And before the formatting, everything was also working fine. I only did it to refresh my Windows, knowing that I performed a clean installation from a USB stick; I know I didn't do anything wrong during the reinstallation.

The only fix I found so far is to set compatibility mode to Windows 8, but that's not possible for everything (since DX12 is only available starting from Win 10).

I honestly have no idea what this could be related to. Of course, I disabled the game bar, I have no overlays open, and even in safe mode, I have this issue. I can't think of any solution at this point.

Thank you very much =)

Hello,

I don't know how to play in windowed fullscreen. You can either play in fullscreen (which is much more enjoyable), or play in windowed mode, but not both at the same time.

Is your graphics card updated? ... Check it.

What version of your Windows OS do you have?

Well, uh, yes, windowed full screen indeed exists, it's simply a borderless windowed mode that goes over the taskbar, but it's been very common for years ????

Yes, my GPU is up to date, like all my drivers. It's not a hardware problem, it's software and it's on Windows 11, not even on my personal side, let's say.

Well, actually, yes, the borderless windowed fullscreen does exist, it's just a borderless windowed mode

I have serious doubts about your statement. In my opinion, the borderless windowed mode is a fullscreen mode.

Well, you can have doubts, but in this case, I'm right ???? all you have to do is launch any game under DX 11 to see three display modes: windowed, fullscreen, and borderless. Under DX 12 you only have borderless and windowed since from what I've seen fullscreen is poorly supported.

Honestly, I wouldn't have called for help if the borderless mode was a fullscreen mode, since I don't encounter this problem in fullscreen... that's a bit of gatekeeping, isn't it ????

Just launch any game under DX 11 to see three display modes: windowed, fullscreen, and borderless. Under DX 12, you only have borderless fullscreen and windowed.

Have you reread what you wrote? Where is the "Fullscreen windowed mode"...?

I used the other term. Borderless is either windowed fullscreen or fullscreen without borders. Borderless windowed in English, I don’t see why you keep contradicting me, I admit.

I’m not contradicting you, I’m just stating that you don’t grasp the exact definition of the phrase "windowed full screen". I have probably been involved in the world of computing for much longer than you.

Greetings,

So, I don't know your ages and I would be quite presumptuous to assume that "I've probably been practicing for much longer than you," knowing someone who played the famous Atari or other weird stuff from back in the day.
Personally, I've been gaming for a little over 30 years and I've only been into computing since the release of Windows 3.1. But all that is somewhat irrelevant, lol...
And yes, I've seen and even used "borderless fullscreen". However, I've more often disabled it to switch to "fullscreen" proper ^^, as I absolutely hate that "borderless fullscreen" mode. (And that's exactly what brings me here. Unfortunately, your problem, Sinalor, is a bit different from mine.)

So it's either a case of talking past each other, or one of us is not getting what it's about.

Panthera, the term "borderless fullscreen" isn't new, Sinalor is very clear in his messages. Sorry for you, Sinalor, though, I don't have the answer to your question, by the way...
I used this mode on an MMO over 10/15 years ago, because I needed to switch regularly to Mumble (for the nostalgic ones ^^) and I've seen this mode in the graphics or video settings menus of many games.

It's a mode in which the game fills the entire screen, without visible borders, and as soon as you move your mouse to the top of the screen, the top bar of the window appears (to close or minimize the game to the taskbar). And if you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen, then the taskbar appears.
And the game completely fills the screen in this mode, it just behaves like a window. It's as simple as that.

On my side, I don't know how to remove this damn mode but only for Forza Horizon 4. All my other games are fullscreen, period. And in my quest for a solution, I came across this topic, which unfortunately isn't one.

So, in the game, it says either "windowed" or "fullscreen" in the menus. Except that it's a "borderless fullscreen" mode, and as soon as my mouse wanders down, when I click because I wanted to move the camera, it obviously clicks on the taskbar (which is above the game), and bam, the game pauses.

It's absolutely in-sup-port-able XD as behavior, and I wish I could play in true fullscreen like in FH5 :'(

Sorry if I add a question to your topic, Sinalor, I hope you won't hold it against me ^^
Hoping we get an answer ;-)

Have a good evening/day/weekend everyone :D
