Graphics card at 100% for no reason

Hello everyone, I'm encountering a very strange problem on my PC since today.

After downloading MSI Afterburner, my PC started running at 100% for no reason, even while just sitting on the desktop, especially the graphics card...

I immediately uninstalled MSI Afterburner, but it didn't change anything; the graphics card is still running at 100%, and the strangest thing is that as soon as I open the Task Manager, everything goes back to normal! And as soon as I close the Task Manager, the graphics card goes back to 100% and the CPU to 30-35% with nothing going on! I have no idea what is happening; I ran a scan with MALWAREBYTES but there was no change...

Help ????

    Hello.

You must have changed the settings of your graphics card with the MSI software, press the Windows and R keys at the same time, a window will appear, copy/paste this rstrui.exe then click on OK, the system restore will open, perform a system restore to a date prior to the installation of MSI AfterBurner.

You should post a topic in the virus/security section.

There's no need to go to the virus security forum; it would be better to do what I indicated in my first message.

If that doesn’t work, do the following:

Download FRST. Once downloaded, save it to the desktop, then right-click on FRST and choose Run as administrator, you will have this:

      Click on Scan.

Be careful, wait until the messages saying that the scan is complete appear.

At the end of the scan, you will have two text files on the desktop: FRST and Addition.

Then send the FRST and ADDITION reports to PJJOINT and then provide the two links generated by PJJOINT in your reply.

I just realized a backup of the PC to an earlier date and it seems to have worked! However, I have a question: if I indeed had a virus that could have installed itself, is there a risk for the computer even if the backup seems to have fixed the problem? Or do I need to do a complete reinstallation of Windows to be sure?

Unfortunately, I don't have the time tonight to get involved in different manipulations as I'm going away...

Thank you all for your responses!

You should have started by doing what was in my first message, but you apparently didn't see or read it; I don’t think this is a story of infection.

As I mentioned in my first message, MSI Afterburner made adjustments that remained after its uninstallation; restoring the system simply allowed you to revert to the settings that preceded Afterburner's installation.

If you are still worried that your PC might be infected, to reassure you, follow the FRST procedure indicated in my message #7, and I will tell you whether your PC is infected or not; there's no need to reinstall everything for a simple trojan niner that I'm not even sure is on your PC.

Sorry, I read your message but having not had time today, I was looking for a quick solution. However, I will indeed carry out the FRST procedure you indicated and I will send the results on Wednesday (I won't be back before...).

      Thank you for your help!

The only solution that matters is the right solution, and it's not necessarily quick.

      See you Wednesday.

    Hi

The graphics card always runs at 100% and the strangest thing is that as soon as I open the task manager, everything goes back to normal

And without the task manager, how do you see that the card is at 100%???

With the integrated software on the computer (Armory Crate), I see that the graphics card is at 100% and drops to 0% as soon as I open the task manager, and I also hear the fans going crazy! (I'm on a laptop)

Yes, so no object, install HWMONITOR to see the behavior of the components.

HWMONITOR is also present on the PC and the same card is at 100%. I noticed that as soon as I disconnect the internet and restart the computer offline, the problem disappears. I suspect a mining-type malware or something like that, but no antivirus detects it. I will try to reinstall the Nvidia drivers and make a Windows backup.

It's possible... you should post a topic in the virus/security section by linking to this one.

Unfortunately, I probably found the problem; I installed MSI AFTERBURNER but strangely can't find the link anymore when searching in Google history, even though it was on the first page earlier. I think I'm in for a complete reinstallation...
