Cursor stuck in lower left or upper right corners

Good evening,

I can no longer access my cursor whether via the touchpad or an external mouse. The cursor remains stuck in the lower left corner at the Windows icon or the upper right, and I'm having trouble regaining control over it. The cursor even goes off the screen.

For your information, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon. I have already restarted, checked that the touchpad or mouse are enabled, updated the drivers but nothing works..

Could someone please help me?

Thank you in advance!

Do you remember when it happened? After an installation? An update? A new device?
Have you tested with no devices connected?
Maybe check if there is an option to revert to a previous restore point in Windows.

Have you checked in the device manager if the pad is "normal"? (no yellow sign)
We can configure

We cannot rule out a hardware failure, but if nothing else works, including a reinstallation of Windows without data loss.

The first time it happened was early August, I think. I had put my computer to sleep for a +/- long period without turning it off. But there were no new updates/installations or new peripherals.

With no peripherals connected, the trackpad works; when I make sudden movements, the cursor rises a bit before getting stuck in the corner of the screen – the same happens if a mouse is connected.

I tested via the BIOS if my trackpad was still functioning, and it’s OK, the same for the USB mouse. I still reset both devices in the BIOS, no failures so far.

When I carried out the procedures, I was able to control the cursor in the BIOS for 5-10 minutes, but then it went back to popping out of the screen and no longer following the movements of the trackpad or the mouse.

So I’m a bit lost...

When I make abrupt movements, the cursor lifts a bit before getting stuck in the corner of the screen.
I managed to control the cursor in the BIOS for 5-10 minutes, but then it started popping out of the screen again.

So it smells like a hardware defect.
If it's less than two years old, it's a return under warranty to the seller. If not, it's repair or disable it and walk around with a mouse.

Okay, thanks for the help! I think it's out of warranty, it's refurbished. I've had it for a little over a year though.

And I always have a mouse on me, but even with the mouse the cursor barely follows the movements...

In this case, personally, I would try a complete reinstallation of Windows (without really believing it), just to be sure.
- Try to disable the touchpad if possible (in the BIOS?), and only use the mouse.
- Or try taking it apart; with some luck, the connector that links the touchpad may have shifted and that's causing the issue. If I'm going to lose anyway... See if there are tear-down tutorials online, or go to a shop, asking for the price for this type of repair and specifying a maximum amount.
- Otherwise, if it's out of warranty, I don't think there's a solution; a repair would likely be expensive if something needs to be replaced, and it will probably be the motherboard.

Buy another PC, new if possible, but I'm aware that it's a big ask, depending on the actual need.

hi

and sorry to say this, but your PC is too weak for W10, no wonder it lags/freezes like that

if you can, install Ubuntu to ease the load

I don't think I've read that it's Windows 10...

Moreover, you're talking nonsense; this model exists in recent configurations.
So please don't make such off-topic suggestions, thanks.

Lost Paris nikomouk008 (oh yes, I see everything even if it's deleted)
I hope this will prevent you from being too sure of yourself next time.
If not, I will delete it directly; internet users should not be victims of bad advice due to overconfidence.

Thank you, but I bought it under Windows 10 and everything was working correctly until recently. I don't wish to upgrade, and unfortunately for my studies, I can't switch to Ubuntu; otherwise, I would have already done it!
