Typewriter carriage rooy does not move

Hello,

I bought a Rooy typewriter and I noticed that the carriage doesn't move when I type a letter, which causes the letters to overlap and the ink ribbon doesn't rewind. Upon closer inspection, I found a red elastic band at the bottom. I retrieved it with a pair of pliers since it is broken and no longer attached to the system.
I believe that over time, the elasticity of the band has worn out.
I think the carriage problem must be related to this elastic that was once under tension.
Would you know where to buy this type of elastic and especially how to reattach it?
Thank you in advance.
Have a good evening.

    Good evening,

It would be good to provide the model..

Normally, it’s a helical spring that is wrapped in the drum under the cart... which drives the movement of the cart; ... Not a rubber band.... It is likely that this spring is also broken or detached from the core's shaft... it can also be repaired by redoing the hook loop on the metal ribbon... But for that, the metal needs to be "annealed" before starting to bend it..

    A photo wouldn't hurt either....!

Jeannets is right.. you may have a broken or just detached barrel spring (that would be less serious) and the belt needs to be replaced..
Depending on the models, for the belt, you can use a cotton webbing or a simple nylon fishing line (1.5 or 2mm)

For the anchoring ribbon, it should be 13mm... also depending on the machines, these are ribbons with eyelets or tension for automatic return..
