Hello,

I need to open an old Lotus Notes email database saved as a .nfs file.

I no longer have the Lotus Notes software on my PC.

Are there any ways to access the emails in this database, such as programs or a free version of Lotus Notes or a trial version?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

    Hello
Unfortunately, tools for converting Lotus Notes to a PDF file, EML (Microsoft Mail, Apple Mail), or a PST (MS Outlook) exist, but they are all paid.
You can try the demo versions, but there are no guarantees; I haven't tested them.
    For example, https://www.cubexsoft.com/nsf-converter/
    Cheers

    Hello,

Thank you Macintosh for your response.

I installed the Cubexsoft program, but when I launch it, nothing happens; it won’t start. I don’t know if it’s due to my 64-bit PC...?

I installed other programs I found online like esoft tools / systools or softaken, but when I try to convert the nfs file to pst, I get an error message indicating that Lotus Notes must be installed on the PC beforehand for the conversion to take place, which I do not have. My need to convert it is precisely because I no longer have Lotus Notes to open my nfs mail database.

Do you know if there are programs that can convert without needing Lotus Notes installed on the PC?

Thank you in advance for your support.

    See you!

      Hello
Machines with a 64-bit Windows can run both 32-bit AND 64-bit programs, while only 32-bit Windows can run ONLY 32-bit programs....
So (to summarize) the issue doesn't come from there.
Have you installed the program as an Administrator (right-click on the installation exe) ?
Same when launching it, just to be sure !!

Yes, most of the "others" can only convert to a PST (MS Outlook), the one from cubexsoft.com does it to more formats, so it's easier if you don't have Outlook..

      See you later

    Hello,

Thank you for your reply Macintosh.

Unfortunately, it still won't launch, even though I've uninstalled it and re-run it as an administrator (by right-clicking), I don't even have an error message to know what’s wrong.

What do you suggest I do to investigate this?

For your information, I am on Windows 10, compatibility issue?

    See you!

      Hello
      No worries with Windows 10.
If only we had a screenshot of the error or the issue (with cjoint.com)

    Hello,

At the very least, if there’s no free solution, I might try a paid program as a last resort.
Do you know of any program, even a paid one, that meets my needs to convert a file from nfs to pst, without having Lotus Notes installed on my PC?

    See you soon.

      Hello
If you don't have MS Outlook for PST, there’s no solution that I know of.
Unless you buy a conversion software without knowing if it will install (given your previous issues... it's better to resolve those rather than turn to something else, right??) and if on top of that you have to "buy" Outlook (which is part of the MS Office Pack)... Not really a cool solution.
      Talk to you soon!

    Hello,

I agree with you that it's better not to purchase anything until I am sure about the prerequisites for installing the program.

But I have a small correction to make: I do have Outlook from Microsoft Office 16 installed on my PC, but it is not configured yet.
What I currently don’t have is IBM Lotus Notes.

I had Lotus Notes on an old PC that I no longer have, but before losing it, I recovered the Lotus Notes NFS file.

Now, I need to open the emails contained in the NFS file in Outlook (on my new PC), but I cannot do that until I manage to convert the NFS file into a PST file.

The problem is that I doubt I will be able to complete this conversion, even with a paid conversion program, if Lotus Notes is not installed on my PC beforehand.
I believe that is a prerequisite; I saw it in the error message when I tried to use free conversion programs on the internet.

Unfortunately, Lotus Notes is a heavy client, and there is no lightweight version of Lotus Notes that I could install on my PC as a private individual, based on what was explained. If that were the case, I wouldn't even have thought about converting to Outlook.

So to summarize, my main goal is to successfully open the emails contained in the NFS file; I am open to any proposed solutions.

I thought about converting it to PST because Outlook from Microsoft Office 16 is the email application that I currently have (I no longer have Lotus Notes).

How can I do this, please?

      Hello
If you have Lotus Notes, you just need to export the emails to CSV, which it can do without any issues.
Conversion tools can’t do it without having Lotus Notes (otherwise, they’re useless).
Most paid tools can convert to a PST, the one I mentioned can also convert to other formats besides PST...
A right-click on the EXE installer and the Properties and Compatibility tab allows you to look for different modes.
Always opt for admin rights in case of access difficulties to certain folders for installation.
The ball is in your court, I can't do anything more for you.
      See you!

    Hello,

Referring to the CubexSoft installation guide, it states that a prerequisite is to have the Lotus Notes client installed on the machine:

    Here is the excerpt:

"Launch CubexSoft NSF Export Software from the start menu or by double-clicking the Shortcut icon of NSF Export from the Desktop.

After launching, the software will check the basic prerequisites and will display a Lotus Notes version installed on the machine as shown below. Click on OK-

Notes - Lotus Notes Installation is MANDATORY to carry out Lotus Notes to Office 365 Migration

If you do not have Lotus Notes installed and configured, please read this complete guide to know -

How to Install and Configure Lotus Notes 9 on Windows?"

    Unfortunately, my issue remains unresolved...

Do you have any alternative solutions?

    Thank you.
