Hello, I would like to create two Thunderbird accounts but not visible together in the left pane—I know how to do that, but keep them strictly separate (mail privacy etc.)
How to have two Thunderbird instances on a single PC and, if possible, also create 2 desktop shortcuts to access these distinct mailboxes ??
thanks
Configuration: Windows / Chrome 96.0.4664.45

Hello,
It is possible in Thunderbird to use profiles. Each profile is a distinct environment.
To create a new profile, you must launch Thunderbird with the -P parameter, for example by duplicating the Thunderbird icon on the desktop and changing the program that is launched to
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -P
see: https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/gestionnaire-profils-creer-supprimer-thunderbird -
Thank you for the answer. I do indeed have two profiles, but I don't see how to open them separately yet. For now they are both visible in the left pane when I open TH, but I would like to separate them so that emails from one are not visible to the other and vice versa.

Ah OK I hadn't seen things from that angle, that's why I was banging my head trying to find something that obviously wasn't possible on a single profile...
I'll try that and come back to provide the results, thanks -
Here you go: Well, now it’s okay, I have two distinct profiles now
when I click on TH in the taskbar I land on the "choose your profile" box and then open TH
Is it possible to create two shortcuts on the desktop ?
I tried putting the profile path in the shortcut but it doesn’t work... -
thank you I was working on it and I found a tutorial here that says the same thing
https://forums.mozfr.org/viewtopic.php?t=113190
I just mastered the first shortcut, I had to change Program Files by Programmes (x86)
apparently everything is OK
thanks for the help
best regards -
Thank you for that clarification. So I have quite a few programs in x86—could it be the same issue?
I’m going to look into TH first; I think I need to reload a complete program on Mozilla? Or would an update be enough? I’ll get on it right away while awaiting your reply, thanks. -
As a supplement I’m not going to lose anything by recharging at 64 ??

You install only the 64-bit version; it doesn't touch the profile directory, which is exactly separate from the program: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/#fr
Many programs that used to be 32-bit now exist in 64-bit, but not all.

I just checked and I have Version 91.3.2 loaded on 20/11... on Mozilla's official download site there aren't, unless I'm mistaken, other versions; I have the latest.
my PC is indeed 64-bit
I don't really see the point of uninstalling the current TH to reinstall the same version.... or am I mistaken ???
Thanks if you have any details
