Email rejection to Gmail addresses

Antigone -
 Namib -
Good evening,

I would like to submit to the community the problem I have been experiencing for about fifteen days with TB, regarding sending messages to Gmail recipients, and only them (for 48 hours, the problem also affected my Hotmail correspondents, but it resolved itself afterwards, without any intervention on my part).

I am using TB (version 78.12.0) with two addresses: my professional address (academic), and my personal address (on wanadoo.fr). No problems with my professional address, from which I can send messages to Gmail recipients without any issues. However, there is a blockage with my personal address, which has been happening for two weeks now (I saw that TB had an update on July 19th: is there a link?). I received non-delivery messages, either immediately, after 48 hours, or... 8 days later for one of them. With the error message: 421-4.7.0 This message does not have authentication information or fails to pass.

Here are my server settings (for my wanadoo address).
Orange (SMTP server)
Server name: smtp.orange.fr
Port: 587
Username: ***@***
Authentication method: Password, insecure transmission
Connection security: None

I tried changing some of these settings (unsuccessfully):
- the server (Orange also offers smtp.wanadoo.fr)
- the port: 465.

I called Orange for the first time, who told me that the problem was from Gmail. Then a second time today, where they told me it was TB (after some tests that seemed to prove that indeed, it would be the source of the problem; I can indeed send emails to Gmail recipients without any issues when I send them directly from my Orange account). I also called the IT store where I am a customer (Ordisys, in Nîmes), who remains on the Gmail hypothesis, and adds that another client recently reported the same problem.

Can I ask for your help with this problem, which occurred unexpectedly and is bothering me a bit, I must admit? Thank you very much in advance.

Hello
be careful, the Orange messaging service is often hacked, strengthen your passwords
this also applies to other passwords

following the functioning anomalies encountered with the Orange POP server, I switched to IMAP still on Thunderbird

imap.orange.fr
port: 993
user: complete Orange email address
security: ssl/tls
authentication: normal password

smtp.orange.fr
port: 465
security: ssl/tls
authentication: normal password
user: complete Orange email address

A thank you is appreciated.
Mark as resolved if your problem has been solved. I address everyone informally.

Hello Redbart.
Unfortunately, these changes didn't do anything (even after restarting the messaging, then the computer). I will eventually find a solution, but it will certainly take some time, since I don't have enough knowledge to ask the right questions!
Thank you anyway for your proposed solution.
Have a nice day!

Hello,

would a pseudo Antigone be so disastrous?

Regarding wanadoo/orange addresses, there’s no point in converting the former to the latter, whether in the email address or server settings, since the former no longer exist and the transposition is done automatically.

On the problem itself.

If it’s related to a bug in gmail servers, there’s not much we can do, but we have several tests available to identify the issue.

First, these should be done in real-time, so you should create a gmail address if you don't have one, to send emails to yourself, even if you plan to delete it afterwards.

The problem might be due to IMAP: test with POP on the outgoing SMTP port 25, although in principle, connections to gmail should be made using IMAP.

Google also claims that for this purpose and with IMAP, it’s exotic, you need to configure your OWN gmail account...

To check if Thunderbird is the culprit (it’s not clear why it would be, because if there are filters, they are incoming), test with another email client, for example Foxmail: https://www.arobase.org/softs/foxmail.htm

That said, and even though I don’t use Thunderbird but The Bat!, I have no issues sending outgoing emails to gmail (using a secure POP connection TLS on port 465, but I have a gmail account).

The only disastrous thing in this matter is a certain date in July from which Antigone has resolutely entered into resistance!
As for the rest, namely her "mailesque" fate which is still contrary for the moment, Antigone is doing everything she can to understand, in an admirable voluntary effort given her relatively low level of computer skills...
Joking aside: the problem, I repeat, is the non-delivery of my emails to my recipients when they have a gmail address. No issue with other addresses (except fleetingly with hotmail). My emails are sent, but they do not arrive, and an "undelivered mail" comes back to me like a boomerang after varying lengths of time (up to 8 days for one of them).
I will take care this afternoon of those tests that you indicated to me (I have two gmail addresses, which I actually use little, but hell with being frugal!), and I will let you know what comes of it. I already tried sending a message to one of those addresses by posting my email directly from the Orange messaging service (Orange website), and the email arrived just fine, hence Orange's diagnosis which concluded that it was not them but TB, through which the manipulation does not work. In short...
More later!
