Multimedia Gateway

Hello,

I have a TV at home, but it's not a smart one. However, I want to be able to watch series on Netflix and Crunchyroll.
I’ve heard about media players and media gateways.
So my questions are as follows:

1. What is the difference between a media player and a media gateway?

2. Is it mandatory to have Wi-Fi to use them? As an alternative, can I use mobile data sharing from my phone that shares its videos?

3. Is it necessary to share directly from the smartphone (I mean cast…)(I don’t know if that’s the right word)? (Actually, I would like to watch on my TV without relying on the Netflix and Crunchyroll apps on my smartphone)

4. What are the best choices for media gateways or media players, considering mobile data sharing and the applications available (especially Netflix and Crunchyroll)?

Thank you.

Hello,

-- You can use an Android TV Box, it's tiny, it connects to the internet to access TV and its output is connected via HDMI to the TV... Like the H96max for example here at €53
https://www.amazon.fr/Android-Bluetooth-Quad-Core-Cortex-A53-LAN100M/dp/B07TGC1YGM/ref=as_li_ss_tl?__mk_fr_FR=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&dchild=1&keywords=h96+max&qid=1604414003&sr=8-5&linkCode=sl1&tag=passion0b8-21&linkId=1433f3e2ef43a65634d2e2bc4d4d51ac&language=fr_FR

Here’s the same one at €37 with no shipping costs https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/4001092292966.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.62e84e53rhzFG7&algo_pvid=4bc36a92-910d-49bb-b3cc-5a22b9e4434f&algo_exp_id=4bc36a92-910d-49bb-b3cc-5a22b9e4434f-20

With that, you have TV if your internet speed is sufficient... it works like smartphones, you can install APK applications you find on the PlayStore or other providers on the Web, like AmazonTV for example.
or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crunchyroll.crunchyroid&hl=fr&gl=US

-- It needs an internet connection, whether via WiFi or the Ethernet cable from your BOX... the speed must be at least 6 megabits without interruptions..

-- It usually works with the shared Wifi connection of a mobile... But it depends on your phone provider and your contract with them... It's worth mentioning that BOX connections are much more stable and don’t have issues like some mobiles...

But that, we can't know in advance, we have to try

There is no CAST to do, these boxes work as soon as they are connected to the Web.

Thank you!!
Just one more question... Any app? Can I download Call of Duty Mobile on it?

After a quick search, I learned that it's possible to have apps like Call of Duty Mobile or Asphalt with certain boxes.
Is it possible with Xiaomi Mi Box S? And in that case, is the latency between the controller and the reaction on the screen not high enough to spoil the gaming experience?

In principle, yes, you can install what you install on an Android smartphone, up to the limit of the internal memory capacity...

but I can't speak from experience, I haven't tested those applications and I generally don't test games...

for the "xiaomi mi box s" I would say no, it is too basic and has little memory and is not very responsive.
You need a 64-bit 4-core processor like Mediatek or RK 3318 or 3328 or higher
A RAM of 4GB and Nand of 64GB

It's close to smartphones in terms of specifications... the applications and storage go into the Nand memory... if you have little of this memory, you can't do anything... So you need to read the specifications first and the price afterwards.

You can improve the external memory capacity by adding a 32 or 64 GB MicroSD, but it is only for storing your video and photo data... it should not be used as an extension of internal memory, it slows the device down terribly.

You have to try... you'll give me your feedback on your experience with a game + keyboard + mouse...(???)
