Changing MSI Nightblade MI3 Motherboard

Good evening,

I have had my PC for nearly 3 years now, and I am going to change my motherboard and processor. I currently have a B250M and an i5 7400, which I will replace with an H310M Pro VDH Plus and an i5 9400f. However, after some research, I cannot find anywhere how to change the motherboard. The Nightblade MI3 is a very compact computer, and I have never disassembled or built a PC, so I am hesitant to unscrew everything in all directions.

Can anyone help me?

    In both cases, it’s an ITX motherboard; the H310M you chose won’t fit. And even an ITX motherboard might not fit properly.

    In the case of the first one, since the RAM is SO-DIMM (laptop RAM), you won’t be able to reuse the RAM, and I doubt that the DIMM will fit.

      Good evening,

      My PC is closer to the first model. However, it is not exactly identical. The specifications of the PC are here: https://fr.msi.com/Desktop/Nightblade-MI3/Specification
      My model is the one in the third column.

      From what I see on the technical sheets, the B250 is an ATX while the H310M is a mini-ATX. So, won't it fit?

        b250, h310 is the chipset, not the form factor, there are atx, micro atx, min itx (at least in standard)
        h310m is the name for a motherboard with the h310 chipset and in micro atx format, but it is an h310

        if your pc is like the first one with decent ram (so-dimm), it is almost certain that a standard motherboard even mini itx won't fit, the ram as well and especially the cpu cooler, if it were possible msi wouldn't have gone through all the trouble to make this system compact.

        if you can take pictures of your pc opened to see what it looks like.

        I misspoke, sorry, what I meant to say is that on the specs of the motherboards I see on the MSI website, the motherboard in my PC is an ATX format while the one I bought is a mini ATX.

        I did notice that the RAM in my PC is SO-DIMM, so I'm going to buy compatible RAM today.

        At this point, and given how the PC doesn't seem designed for upgrades, I might as well buy a case and reuse the GPU and the power supply. And if this is the best solution, is the power supply really reusable or would it be better to buy a new one as well?

        The graphics card is recoverable; as for the power supply, I can't tell you, I don't know what the connectors are. I can't open the MSI datasheet.
