Hello,
I no longer have the black cross that appears in the bottom right corner of a cell in Excel 2016.
However, in the advanced options, I have indeed checked "Extend formulas and formats of data ranges."
Do you have any ideas about the problem?

"Enable the fill handle..." must be checked
