Hello, I’m writing to you because I unfortunately spilled the contents of a glass of water on the left side of my MacBook Pro (2018 touch bar). And unfortunately, I barely had time to dry it before it shut down immediately; obviously, I think there was a short circuit since it was charging. Since then, nothing happens except that the touch bar sometimes lights up red when I try to turn it on. It’s been 3 days now, and it doesn’t turn on at all, while on the same day I still had some sound when I pressed the power button 3 times and the shift key lit up green when I pressed it.
So anyway, I wanted to know what I should do since I’m a student and I can’t afford to buy a new Mac of this range, and I wanted to know if AppleCare would cover it or not. Should I lie about the circumstances of the accident? Or is that unnecessary? What do you advise me to do?
Do you know if it costs a lot to repair or even if it’s detectable?

Hello,
very few people have the reflex, in this case, to turn off the PC AND remove the battery.
You very likely have damage to the contacts, possibly a short circuit.
Unfortunately, this kind of material damage is most often permanent. You can always try to dry it thoroughly (rice, desiccant...) and use a contact cleaning product.
As for lying to customer service, I’ll let you take responsibility for that kind of practice. But they will certainly see the oxidation from the water.
As for the repair cost, only an estimate will tell you, but it is certain that it's not cheap given the hassle of repairing Apple products. Generally, Apple doesn't even attempt repairs; they offer you a replacement for a lower price instead.
Repairability: 1 / 10 :(
