Hello,
Try this: go to the Control Panel (classic view) > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Click on the CD drive and then tab Drivers and Update Driver or Install Driver.
If you are using Vista the instructions may be slightly different.
PS: in the Packard Bell quick start and troubleshooting guide you will find the instructions to burn your Recovery DVD.
Keep me posted.
Best regards.

the problem is that I can't find the CD drive in Device Manager
I reinstalled it as it was from the factory (purchased on 15/11) and the CD drive appeared and then disappeared again
I can't do a recovery DVD since my drive is not recognized when I insert a DVD or CD
Roxio is pre-installed, same, "drive not detected"
I'm having a bit of trouble understanding...
Should I do a complete restore (without keeping the user profile)?

Good evening Zebulon,
Here is the documentation I had found at the time, thanks to Ludovrh:
"Did you eventually install new burning software?
Try these 2 manipulations:
42: My CD readers/burners have disappeared or appear as errors in Device Manager
This problem can occur after uninstalling (even if followed by a reinstallation) Easy CD Creator or after a Windows update.
Interestingly, Windows uses Easy CD drivers, so this problem can sometimes arise during certain installations of third-party software (notably Nero). This can be quickly fixed. First of all, if the devices appear as errors in Device Manager, delete them forcefully.
Do not reboot.
Download the file available below (don’t mind the name), save it to your disk, then right-click on it, and select "Install".
Then restart the machine... Miracle
Download the file fixcd.inf
http://www3.sympatico.ca/jabrunet/fixcd.inf
To install the file, right-click on it and select install

Hello everyone
I just got a Packard Bell laptop with an Optiarc CD/DVD writer, but I can't find my drive, and like an idiot I obviously didn’t make the recovery CD...
http://docxp.mvps.org/b1n/DisparitionCD.inf didn't work unfortunately
do you know another solution?
thanks in advance
Esteban

Thank you, Hubert, for your response.
The problem is that I can't find the CD drive in the device manager.
I reinstalled it as it was from the factory (purchased on 11/15), and the CD drive appeared and then disappeared again.
I can't do a recovery DVD since my drive is not recognized when I insert a DVD or CD.
Roxio is pre-installed, and it says "drive not detected" as well.

You should try this first:

If it doesn't work, be careful for a complete restore without the Master DVD, at Packard Bell that's not possible, I refer you to the Getting Started and Troubleshooting Guide
Before considering this extreme measure, you should think about a system restore in Windows to a date when your drive was still recognized.

I just realized that the link from the previous post does not work anymore, so here’s another one: http://jabrunet.mvps.org/main7.html
Go to point 42 and click on: fixcd.inf http://jabrunet.mvps.org/fixcd.inf
Note that the second link above should also work, but the documentation from the previous link is interesting.
Best regards

Thank you for these answers, I tried the fixcd.inf, but nothing
and as I reinstalled everything yesterday, it doesn't work
the Windows system restores didn't work, which is why I did an original Packard Bell restore
on the Packard Bell website http://troubleshooter.packardbell.com/index_fr.html it is difficult to get a satisfactory response
I give up...
thank you again for your help
have a nice weekend

I still have a question and I am very interested in the answer: how were you able to do a factory restore without the Master DVD? If you simply used the Smart Restore feature, it may not be enough to reinstall the hardware.
Have you changed anything compared to the original configuration, such as hardware or a card? At Packard Bell, to restore, everything must be identical, and before restoring, you need to uninstall everything that was not original, such as the printer.
Have a good weekend to you too
Hubert

Thank you for your responses, I restored the system and finally made my recovery CDs.
Happy New Year to everyone :)

the problem is still not resolved by the manufacturers in 2014
but the solution works well
