Booting a PC without an operating system?

Question

Hello everyone,
I wanted to know if when you start a computer without an operating system, you should still see the BIOS on the screen??
Because when I turn on the computer (without an operating system), I have nothing on the screen!!! The screen works when I connect another PC, it's as if the PC isn't sending any signal to the screen???

Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.7

Hi Make sure to connect your screen to the graphics card output and not the motherboard screen output, because the former takes priority over the latter Let us know how it goes Ciaooo

Hello,  At startup, you may hear a sound (1 beep) and your keyboard should light up. If not, there’s a motherboard issue (processor, memory, IDE cable).  Best regards -- JMD

I did it, only once, and in principle: At least one boot page should appear with the boot sectors; to format your HDD (if it hasn't been formatted before), and then install your operating system afterwards. The BIOS page only appears if you press the appropriate key on your keyboard, on the second boot page.
Did you connect everything inside the PC properly: including your graphics card? > black screen...

Actually, it's a PC that I built myself:
basically:
motherboard: Asus P5V
processor: Intel Core 2 Duo
hard drive SATA2 250GB
graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS
a burner...
Otherwise, I do hear a beep when my PC starts up and my keyboard lights up correctly!
So as you all say, I should still see a page, so I don't understand??

Check your graphics card anyway: connection, insertion does it appear in the BIOS? check the settings: it's indeed the one that starts and not some possible internal card. -- JMD

Yes, I think it's her, but I can't check in the BIOS if she appears because my screen is actually black?? But I will still check if she is properly seated!!

Well, you're going to laugh, but indeed, that was my problem and I thank you. Actually, I didn't pay attention when connecting the serial port and I connected it to the motherboard instead of connecting it to the graphics card. It’s a stupid accident!!
So thanks again to everyone who tried to help me and thanks to bogosstar42 for solving this fantastic problem!!!!

LOL I had the same problem, I brought my Acer PC back thinking the monitor output was broken since I bought it. I took it to customer service and the guy plugged the monitor into the right port, I felt like an idiot, looooooool, me who was so good at computing.......
