Why 2 numbers for the same landline?

Hello,
I have a quick question regarding my landline.
While testing my eligibility with different internet providers, I realized that each time I provided the phone number that is used to reach us, it could not be found. In my research, I found a second number that is recognized by the operators.
How is this possible?
Is it possible to delete one?
Thank you all for your insights
Valérie

Hello
You don't specify it, but there's a good chance the current number is a 09 something, assigned by your current internet provider
The first one would be from the historical operator, probably a geographic number such as 01, 02, 03, 04, or 05.
It's this number that matters to determine if you're eligible for a certain offer because it's the number assigned by Orange (formerly France Telecom)
As for the first one, only your provider knows it (and of course the people you shared it with)

While the second one is the only one visible to all operators because this number indicates the position of your cables at the level of the distribution point or DSLAM.
That's how it works in the context of TOTAL unbundling when you no longer pay the subscription to France Telecom
In PARTIAL unbundling, you continue to pay a subscription to Orange and in this case, you should be reachable on both numbers
Is that correct?

Hi,
I think that in the context of the planned disappearance of the PSTN phone system, partial unbundling is also a thing of the past and no longer exists in a new installation, just like ADSL filters.

Hi,
Is it possible to delete one?

yes and no ....
you cannot delete the number starting with 09, unless you completely give up the landline on the box.
You can also delete the geographic number at the telephony level, for example to transfer it to another landline.
But it will always be attached to the line, because it serves to identify it, and as long as it exists, it will have a geographic number, which is called the NDI (number of designation of the installation).
In any case, you're not obligated to use these numbers, and it doesn't hinder anything for both to be active; it doesn't cost you more or less, at least currently, as the subscription is still included in the ADSL subscription.

and ... There you go!

Hello,
but no, it's not a 09 but 2 04.
If I go to the reverse directory, one is recognized; the other one isn't.

As I mentioned earlier, there may be the NDI which designates the line and a ported number, which can indeed be a geographic number.
The NDI cannot be removed, it designates the line, somewhat like the INSEE number for social security.
The ported number can be removed by transferring it to another line, you probably also have a 09 in addition.
