Hello,
I created a site via New Google Sites
I bought a domain name from Google
My site shows this lengthy name: https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?passive=1209600&continue=https://sites.google.com/view/nomdusite/home-accueil&followup=https://sites.google.com/view/nomdusite/home-accueil
But I would like a simple and short name like www.mysite.com
Apparently, I need to redirect the domain name to my URL (Google-Sites) at: https://domains.google.com/registrar?nfg
by creating a subdomain
1) First, I don't understand what a "subdomain" is and its purpose.
For example, if my site is called www.ice-rink.com, what should I name the subdomain?
2) When I go to https://domains.google.com/registrar?nfg
I have 4 fields to fill out:
a) @ : is this an email address that I am being asked for?
b) A : it seems I need to choose CNAME
c) 1H
d) IPv4 Address: ???
I hope someone can guide me.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello,
I have never done it with the new version of Google Sites, only with the classic version, but I assume the principle is the same.
To redirect the domain name to the URL (Google Sites) at: https://domains.google.com/registrar?nfg
You just need to add www to the domain name in the "Custom resource records" section of the "DNS" tab, by creating a CNAME record with the following values:
Name: subdomain used for redirecting to the site (www.domain_name.fr)
Type: CNAME
TTL (Time to Live) Value: 1 hour
Data: GHS.GOOGLEHOSTED.COM
On Google Sites (classic version), go to "Manage Site" -> "Web Address" -> "Add a web address" -> Enter the subdomain (www.domain_name.fr) and click "Add".
For the new version:
Rename your site
On your computer, open the new version of Google Sites.
Find the site you want to rename.
Click on More and then Rename.
Enter the new name and then click OK.

Hang in there, the end of the tunnel isn't far, just turn around.

and thank you for your response. I tried, but the address of my site hasn't changed and the long name of my URL is still there.
I followed the procedure:
Name: subdomain used for redirecting to the site (www.nom_de_domaine.fr)
I entered the name of my site in ".fr"
then since it didn't seem to work, I also tried ".com" (like the purchased domain name) then out of doubt, I deleted it, and now when I try to redo it, it shows "name conflict" in red.
Did I make a mistake by deleting it?
Type: CNAME
TTL (Time to Live): 1 hour
Data: GHS.GOOGLEHOSTED.COM
Then I followed the other instructions and was able to do it without any problem:
On your computer, open the new version of Google Sites.
Find the site you want to rename.
Click on More, then Rename.
Enter the new name, then click OK.
Otherwise, I see above "Custom resource records", another section called: "Synthetic records" that mentions "Domain redirection" with a field to fill called "subdomain" then an arrow and then a field to fill called "destination URL"
Should I fill in this section for my problem?
THANK YOU
If your domain name is in .com, you should not put it in .fr, it was just an example.
You must follow my procedure closely, do nothing else, it works this way.
Name: subdomain used for redirecting to the site (www.domain_name.com)
Type: CNAME
TTL (Time to Live) Value: 1 hour
Data: GHS.GOOGLEHOSTED.COM
https://support.google.com/sites/answer/9068867?hl=en&ref_topic=6372882
and thank you for your response.
I have tried several times following the procedure carefully, and I always get the same result: "Name conflict" (written in red).
What can I do now?
HELP!
What if I stopped my domain name to buy it back later while recreating my site? Could that be a solution?
