Insert an image in a Word table without changing the cell size

Hello everyone,

I am on Word Mac, and I would like to know if there is a way to insert images into the cells of a table so that these images automatically adjust to the size of the cell.
Most of the time the images are too large and distort my table; I insert or copy-paste them and then resize the image until the table cell returns to its (roughly) original size.

If there is a way to do this, that would be great.

Thank you all.

Configuration: Macintosh / Firefox 67.0

It would probably be necessary for you to provide some clarifications. In particular, the version of Word concerned, its update level, the version of macOS, etc.;

Generally, the adjustment of images is automatic in tables. Provided that the "Table Properties..." have been adjusted accordingly. If you have set fixed widths and heights and unchecked the "Automatically resize to fit contents" option in the "Options," the images will take the appropriate size:

What exactly is happening on your end? How have you set up the different points?

Well, long live preconceived notions, because all I had to do was set the dimensions to "fixed" and uncheck that infamous option. Ah, it makes life easier.
Thank you very much, Martin!

And now, after updating my computer, I'm being told I need to update my Word too, here we go again...

See you soon (maybe with another question about Word updates lol).

You didn't specify which version of Office was being discussed. But this suggestion to "update" brings to mind what we see with Office 2011. It's just an encouragement to move to the current version, knowing that in the next version of macOS, 32-bit applications will no longer be supported.
