Having television in Romania

Hello,

I would like to know what equipment/antenna is necessary in Romania to watch television. I bought a Fransat decoder, but it never worked... No channels found despite the correct positioning of the antenna.
I bought a small indoor antenna and a TNT decoder, but I still can't get a single channel. I asked my neighbors for help, but unfortunately, they don’t understand anything. I don’t know what to do!! Thank you for your valuable help!

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 67.0

Good evening, if you didn't arrive with the satellite, the TNT wasn't worth it, check with a television specialist, but in my opinion, you need to take a subscription in Romania that will provide you with the dish and the necessary equipment for the connection in France, or check with your internet subscription if you have access to television via the internet, of course.

Good evening Fredo, actually I had a Fransat decoder but I never managed to get it to work, I don't understand why. The few people who looked at it couldn't find a solution.
So I switched to a simple system to get Romanian television but nothing works. I set up an indoor antenna, nothing, the TNT decoder the same.
I had everything connected to the satellite dish but it's because it wasn't working that I switched to an indoor antenna.
When I ask people for advice, help, they tell me to check with the Orange installer, but that means taking a subscription, and I’m not in Romania often enough for it to be financially worthwhile.
I asked my neighbors if they pay to have television and they tell me no. So I don’t understand. My neighbors aren’t very informed about things, sometimes it’s even me who give them info about their own country, but right now I’m lost and I don’t know what to do!! No channel found, this isn't normal. There was a time when someone helped us with their classic decoder and we at least had one French channel. But that person has since left with their equipment, I won’t see them again, and I don’t know what they did to get the television exactly.
Thank you for your help, I’m at my wit's end, this is the fourth stay without television, and it’s a place where my parents spend time. I can use the internet so I don’t get bored, but my parents can’t.
I need help but I don’t know where to find it!!
      Thank you for responding.

I forgot to mention that I'm not specifically looking to have French TV; I just want to have the public network channels, and I know that you can get at least one French public service channel without having to pay anything. Thank you for your advice!

For the TNT channels, you just need a rooftop antenna. If you are a tenant, it is the landlord's responsibility to install this antenna. As for an indoor antenna, you need to be close to the relay, and if you are in France, you will only have free French channels outside of an internet box.

I finally solved my problem by finding a technician who was willing to help me outside of his job (he works for an operator). Outside of the operators, there are no technicians you can call to do this work. Everywhere I went, they wanted to sell me a subscription while I just want TV for free. With Fransat, I can only get TV5 Monde because the problem actually comes from my satellite dish, which is not large enough for the area where I am. The adjustment he made was almost millimetric; we wouldn't have succeeded without equipment (it took him 2.5 hours to find this French channel). I hope that the resolution of my problem can help others who have the same issue. Thank you!

    Hello,
"the problem actually comes from my dish which is not big enough for the region where I am"
    Eutelsat 5° West coverage:

For Romania, 48Db/W so a 90 cm dish should be sufficient
TV5 Monde FBS is on the same transponder 10971.00 as a whole series of regional Fr 3 channels that you should also receive
Is your card up to date?
I have the impression that this technician is not very skilled...;-(
Try to reset your decoder to factory settings

Hello Andy, the decoder had never been used, just like the satellite dish and the TV. I also noticed that the people around my house have larger satellite dishes than mine, which is less than 90cm...
      How to update the card?

    When was this decoder purchased?
Is the card in the correct orientation?

The decoder has a pc6 card, so it should normally be fine. Apart from TV5monde, I mostly have German channels.
Yes, the card is in the right direction; otherwise, I imagine it wouldn't work either (the technician had checked).
How do we do the update?
Some channels like Téva are listed, but it tells me that I don't have the rights.

"Apart from TV5monde, I mainly have German channels."
Your installer must have confused TNT SAT and Fransat, so you must be on Astra at 19.2° East.
Here are the clear channels, do you recognize them?

I have an absolute emergency: the apéritif... ;)
Also, I will give you a tip to check if you are on Astra:
    Use this site:
    https://www.dishpointer.com/
-Enter your full address on the left
-Choose from the list on the right the 19.2° East (Astra)
-Click on “Search!” next to your address,
-Zoom in on the map using the + button to clearly locate your house
-Place the target at the location of your satellite dish by "clicking and dragging" and use a landmark for verification (tree, house),

I think you're right about Astra, but the technician couldn't pick up anything in the indicated direction. My dish is the smallest model, so that might explain it.
Actually, my dish is facing the opposite way, right? Yet he used equipment and tested for a long time before finding something. I'll try your method, but I won't take the risk of touching the antenna given how long it took. Thank you very much!

"In fact, my parabola is in the opposite direction"
Not really opposite, but Astra is at 19.2° East and Eutelsat at 5° West, so that’s 24° towards the west relative to Astra, meaning to the right when standing behind the parabola
    What is its size?
There are other French channels in clear on Astra:

      Another question:
Do you receive "TV 5 Monde Europe" or "TV5 Monde FBS" which is sometimes a different program (FBS = France, Belgium, Switzerland)?
