Hello,

I have recovered an old turntable, a Brandt PAT 1523 KB. When the arm is moved towards the center of the turntable, the turntable is supposed to spin. However, over time, the turntable no longer spins. The HiFi system works fine as it is connected to the radio, which operates correctly.
Do you have any idea what the problem might be?
Thank you.

Hi, if it's a proper turntable, the platter should be removable without needing to disassemble everything from the top. You need to remove the mat to access the retention mechanism and check if the belt is still in place or if it's a roller system that needs to be turned. In any case, this type of electronics has a speed regulation system, and that's probably the issue besides a defective belt or roller.

Well, I put the belt back in place because it had come off! But the problem is still there. The platter spins with a little manual help, lasts 2 seconds and then stops right away. There seems to be some sort of brake that is blocking the platter.
Looking underneath the platter, I noticed that the gears were not turning.

    Hello,
Check the state of the drive belt which may be "cooked" by time, but before ordering one, check that the motor is running by putting your finger on its shaft.
