Functioning issue between a Toshiba TV and a soundbar

Hello,
We just acquired a JBL soundbar and the issue is that we have a Toshiba TV but we didn't think it would be a problem for the sound.
On our TV, we only have outputs but this doesn't work to connect the soundbar to the TV.
We even purchased an HDMI Arc cable thinking it would solve the problem, but we were actually informed that the issue comes from the TV since it's an older model.
We were told there is a possibility of buying a box that would allow for the transfer between the two, but above all, I prefer to get advice rather than buy gear for nothing.
