Hello everyone,
I just acquired a XIAOMI Red Note 5 and when I connect it via USB cable to my PC which runs Linux (Ubuntu), my phone is recognized but it's empty of any files. I tried the same thing with my son's laptop which runs Windows, and it was the same. I found a question that was somewhat similar, but not with the Linux OS, and the question was marked as resolved without any solution being provided.
If someone can give me the solution, or point me to a link where I could find it, I would be infinitely grateful, as currently, the only way for me to transfer music or photos from my PC to my phone is to take the SD card out of the phone and connect it to a card reader. Thank you in advance.

Hello,
The phone needs to be properly unlocked when connecting it to the computer.
Additionally, you may need to "ALLOW" (on the unlocked phone screen) access to the phone's data via USB. This is not automatic and systematic.

Hi and a big thank you to you. In fact, a younger user showed me how to do it. In this model, the menu is not the same as the one you mentioned, probably due to a system update; the manipulation is different. When the phone is connected via USB, it needs to be unlocked, then put your finger at the top of the screen and drag it down to display a menu, which includes "Android System," "USB charging for this device," and below that, "tap here for more options." By tapping "tap here for more options," another menu appears with three options: Charge this device (default), then Transfer files, and finally Transfer photos (PTP for Peer to peer, I suppose). You then need to tap on Transfer files, and the files become visible in the phone's directory on the PC screen. After that, you just have to juggle between the phone files and those on the PC. Still, a big thank you to you Judge_DT for answering my question.
