How to retrieve my SFR and Orange email address books on Thunderbird

Hello everyone

How can I retrieve my address books from SFR and Orange emails on Thunderbird?
After deleting my Orange email account, will the emails, address books, and folders be saved on Thunderbird?

    Thank you for your advice, but I'm having trouble saving the contacts and I can't get an application to read ldif files.
    I can get the list on Word, but what can I do with it?

      if Orange does not offer this format, try a .csv file

    Hello everyone,

    Yes! Orange offers the LDIF export format (it was a long battle to get them to do it, but it's done!).

    The procedure for exporting your Orange contacts to Thunderbird is described here (modestly by myself):

    SFR also offers the LDIF export format and the import procedure in Thunderbird is the same

    During the execution of this procedure, it is not about running any application that can handle the LDIF format but about saving an LDIF file on the PC to then import it into Thunderbird.

      First of all, I would like to thank you for the help you provided regarding importing my contacts into THUNDERBIRD from ORANGE email; I was even able to do the same with my SFR email.

      However, I was unable to perform this import from my wife's ORANGE pro email, which still does not accept LDiF files.

      Is it a delay with this professional email service or is there something else to do?

      Hello FRAPAT,

      It is possible that the Orange PRO messaging service, which I don't use, does not accept the LDIF format. I'm not privy to what is or isn't possible with Orange.

      For your wife (in a forum, the convention is to use the informal 'tu' without it being disrespectful), what she can do is export her messages in another format (CSV for example) and give you the file that you will import into your Orange messaging service in CSV, then re-export it in LDIF to her Thunderbird account.

      It is also possible to import a CSV format into Thunderbird, but it's a real headache to match each field of an import file with the address book format. Not something a beginner should attempt.

    To answer the initial question, after deleting an Orange or other ISP email account (internet subscription and not mobile), the account remains available for 6 months before deletion, along with all its content, due to legal requirements. This gives time to recover everything on Thunderbird or another email client and to make backups.
    Thunderbird will retain what it contains (emails, address book, and folders) after the deletion of the Orange account, but if it does not yet contain the Orange contacts, it is time to import them.
