Important update failed (code 8024200D)

Hello,

I recently formatted my PC and installed all the updates EXCEPT one that refuses to install.

It's the Monthly Rollup Quality Update for Windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB4338818) that I tried to install via Windows Update AND manually here https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4338818

but in both cases, the update refuses to install.
I also tried disabling MSE and the Windows Firewall, but nothing changed.

What’s also annoying is that every time I want to shut down the PC, it tries to install this update and the machine shutdown takes a very long time...

Can you please help me?

I am on Windows 7 64 bits.

      While using Windows Update, the error code is 8024200D

      When I attempt a manual installation, there is no error code, just a message notifying me of the failure...

      It seems that I have already tried the tutorials referring to this error and it hasn't changed anything..

    ok, start the command prompt as an administrator (right click)

    in the window that opens, type net stop wuauserv and click on "enter", WU will stop

    when that's done, type net start wuauserv and click on "enter", WU will restart

    then, try searching for updates via WU again and let me know what happens

    Download this --> WinUpdateFix
    Run it
    In services, check that everything is started and set to automatic
    In selection, click on All and then Run
    Restart the PC.
    Go back to Windows Update
    Search for updates.

      Hello,

      I just completed the procedure with Windows Repair and it didn't change anything; we're still at the same point, same error code.

      As for the link you suggested, I had already come across it during my research and had already followed the tutorial, but that didn't work either...

      I know, it's really starting to get annoying.

      Apparently, the update download goes through correctly, but it's during the installation, towards the end, that the progress bar freezes for a while before ultimately displaying the installation failure...

    Delete the updates in SoftwareDistribution >> C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

    Restart the PC and check for updates again

    Restart by tapping F5 or F8
    Choose --> Safe Mode

    Upon reaching the desktop:
    Go to C:\windows
    Rename the folder --> SoftwareDistribution by adding .old
    It should look like this -> SoftwareDistribution.old
    Restart the PC.

    Go to Windows Update and check for updates.

      I'm sorry, but there is still no change, the same error occurs during the same update.

      All I can say is that, apparently, the download goes well, but the installation always gets stuck at the same place on the progress bar.

    Uninstall the installed antivirus, if you have one.

    1)
    You can run an SFC Repair

    Right-click on the "Start" menu then "Command Prompt (admin)",
    Type sfc /scannow in the window.

    It should tell you that protection has detected damaged items,
    and that you need to restart to fix them. At that point, reboot.

    2)

    The command will not work unless you go through the KB.
    From the log, it seems to have worked.
    There doesn't appear to be any errors.

    Try uninstalling MSE, but I doubt it will change anything.
    You can attempt a repair of Windows 7, but it's complicated and long: https://www.malekal.com/reparer-windows-7-sans-perte-de-donnees/

    Maybe wait for the next updates to see if that resolves anything.

      If you talk about factory resetting, you're going to have to deal with a ton of updates.
      So it's really something to do as a last resort.

      But maybe wait sometimes if there's a problem with this KB and a corrective update comes out.

      I came across this solution that seems to correspond exactly to my problem:

      but actually when I follow the procedure, I end up getting an error message. What's strange is that 65.8% looks like the point where the progress bar for the update installation via Windows Update also gets stuck before notifying of the installation failure...
