Images very pixelated after saving as jpg

Question

Hello,
I am using the latest version of Illustrator CC and I am on Mac OS High Sierra with a 5K screen and another FHD screen.
My problem is that when I save a creation I made in Illustrator as a JPG, it comes out very pixelated (I work on images for the web).
However, I set the parameters to the maximum when saving, when I use the shortcut Command Option Shift S, I set the JPEG to 100%, maximum quality, or when I export as and save at 72 ppi with maximum quality by setting the anti-aliasing to optimized for illustration, it still comes out very pixelated, and no matter the image, as long as I'm working on web images, it's always the same whether it's 1000px wide or 120px.

It's quite frustrating; I switch to my other full HD screen to get an idea of what the client might see, but then it looks even worse...

Is there a parameter issue in my Illustrator? Or am I missing something at some point during my save process?

I really don't see it..

In my opinion, it's the JPG format that isn't right... The GIF is already a bit better for the web or the PNG...

And then there's the resolution... you’re working on a 5K screen and saving at 72 dpi... Nowadays, there aren't many screens with such low resolution.. it’s more around 88 - 96 dpi... And much more on your 5K screen!!!!

One method to have beautiful images on the Web is to have a larger image and reduce its size through the code in the web page.

you just need to check the technical documentation of your screen for its resolution.

For example, 218 dpi for this model

However, if it's for web design, you should set it to 96 dpi; but anyway, you may experience discrepancies between your 5k screen (which is a working screen and not for surfing the net) and a standard screen.

Thank you for your response as well, Alex- But I don't see the 218 dpi on the page you mentioned. Did you perform a calculation based on the 5k resolution?

Thank you for your response. I was trying to save in PNG and indeed it's a bit better, but when I save at a higher resolution like 92 dpi, the size of my file increases proportionally. My client won't understand why the file size is larger than expected, so I need to anticipate this when creating my file. However, when I use the save for web option, I can't choose my resolution; it doesn't display it, but I assume it's at 72 dpi. Is it possible to change it?

I am not a web specialist, but the principle for image resolution remains the same as for print.

If your image is 1024x768 px at 72 dpi, displaying it at 50% on the web page gives it a resolution of 144 dpi...

You are working on a screen that has a very high resolution, more designed for photo retouching or cinema than for web page creation.

An image at 72 dpi will seem ridiculously small on your screen because of its very high resolution, and when you zoom in, it will be very pixelated.

You need to calculate the size (in pixels) of your images so that they are the right size on the conventional screens of most users.

Alright, I see, and yes, I didn't choose my screen unfortunately; I wouldn't have picked this, I don't need that much resolution even though I do print from time to time (a roll-up for the most part), but it's not my specialty..
