Using Microsoft Money

Solved

Hello,
When I try to create a new transaction in Microsoft Money (which I've been using for many years), the following message appears: "There is not enough available memory. If multiple applications are open simultaneously, try closing one of them before starting Money."
I have cleaned the disk and deleted some large files, but nothing works: I can't use Money...
Feeling quite helpless, can you please help me?
Thank you in advance.

Hello;

In order to check if the bug comes from MsMoney, I suggest you do as indicated below

Uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft MsMoney

1-Make sure the latest backup is up to date and valid: If so, make a copy of this backup on a removable media (USB key-CD/RW or External HDD)

2-Uninstall MsMoney completely using Revo Uninstaller, to download follow >> This link
Launch this tool, search for Microsoft MsMoney and uninstall it

3-Open hidden files in Windows / If problems >> See This link
then navigate to C:\Users(User Name)\AppData\local\Microsoft >> Find Money and delete it

4-Open the registry with the command Regedit (by clicking on the Windows icon at the bottom left and typing regedit and opening it (see the top of the window))
Open the key Hkey_Current_User then search Software >> Microsoft >> Money > To be deleted
Open the key Hkey_Local_Machine and do the same operation (If Money is present but in principle not!)

5-Restart the machine

6-Reinstall MsMoney version 2005 using the available update (or reinstall) patch at >> This link
then follow the installation procedure from the link above

7-Launch MsMoney from the backup made in 1- and everything should get back to normal

For security reasons >> Always make a backup of MsMoney on removable media (External hard drive - USB key or CD/RW)
You need to configure your backup using the model from the screenshots of the patch download link according to the backup destination (Example made for a backup on CD/RW)

See you for the results

Hello jmarion3,
Thank you for your response. I'm a bit confused because I found the solution and, as a new CCM user, I didn't know how to delete my question... It was actually a problem related to a Windows update, resolved by Control Panel > Troubleshooting > Programs > Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
Thanks again
See you later

Hello Marion,

I am getting back to you directly... The problem has recurred: since yesterday, Money stops working as soon as I try to create a transaction. When I check if there is a compatibility issue with Windows, it tells me that Money is not working... Should I follow the procedure you advised me above?
Thank you in advance for your help
Michel

Hello Funsun06;

Sorry, I didn’t see your message since the issue was resolved

However, I will do like last time, namely perform a new clean and complete uninstallation following the same instructions mentioned above, then a new installation...

I don’t think the problem comes from MsMoney but rather from Windows, but why ?? >> To be seen over time

Hello JMarion3
I've been struggling since this morning... I think I've done everything (uninstalling and reinstalling Money 2005, restoring my old file) and it works when I create a new transaction. If I try to modify an old transaction, Money crashes and restarts...
I'll just leave it at that unless you have a solution for this "little detail".
Anyway, thanks again for your help.
Michel

Hello;

Thank you for the feedback ....
Personally, I think there might be an error in the operations because I tried some modifications and had no issues on my end ...
Personally, I would do a clean uninstall and then reinstall, I would create a "dummy" account and perform various operations to check if the error occurs ..... and if not, I think the error is in your past operations ????
Talk to you later for your comments, but if none >> Subject resolved

Edit >> What is your machine's operating system >> Windows??
Can you check if Net.Framework 3.5 is installed on your machine because sometimes the bug comes from it >> If not installed >> See this link >> Anyway, nothing prevents you from reinstalling it anyway

Hello Fusun06;

OK for the system, but it certainly doesn't come from it!
Have you checked and installed the .Net Framework 3.5?
See you later

Yes, I tried but I can't execute the download of Net Framework 3.5...
I created a new account that works but when I go back to my file restoration, there's nothing to do...
Thank you and see you soon!

Hello;

Unless I'm mistaken, I think that .Net Framework 3.5 is related to the problem because it's essential for the proper functioning of MsMoney!
Why can't you install it? Do you have a message or anything else?
Personally, I no longer have Windows 8.1 but 10 >> To check if .Net Framework is properly installed on Windows 10, you need to open the control panel >> Programs and Features >> On the left, you have Turn Windows features on or off .... >> You click on it and in the window that opens, you should see if .Net Framework is installed (I think it's the same for Windows 8.1 but I don't remember).
See the screen image below

Cheers

Hello Jmarion3
Yes, Net Framework 3.5 is indeed installed...
It's incredible: everything works very well, except... when I type the word "Escota"...??? and only with that word.
That's why I'm hesitant to say that the problem is resolved...
See you maybe and thanks again

Hello;

Sorry, but I am absent..
What does the word "Escota" mean that apparently causes a problem??
Why do you know this word and when?
See you later

Escota is the name of the toll road company that bills me for my tolls... When I enter this name in the "paid to" field, Money stops working and closes, after (sometimes) sending an error message to Microsoft, regardless of the billing date. I can't fix this. Another note, this does not happen on the "dummy" account that I created. It only occurs on the backup that I reinstalled.

Hello;

This is the first time I come across this thing ??
I suppose you are using the "Show forms" option at the bottom of the MsMoney operations page ??
Have you tried clicking on edit and changing that name Escota which seems to be causing the problem by leaving it blank or something else ...
Maybe do this operation on all the debits since the beginning regarding this third party by putting for example Escota1 because there might be a conflict in transactions as to why this does not happen with the dummy account ??
See you+

Yes, I use forms to create a new operation (I find it easier). "Escota 1", it works... I'm puzzled :)
