Hello
While doing my Christmas shopping, I'm browsing the web to find the best-priced items.
I really like the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 Black, so I compare the prices using Google Shopping and I come across this curious price difference:
- LDLC (€430) https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00222589.html
- Amazon (€320) https://www.amazon.fr/Samsung-Galaxy-Smartphone-portable-débloqué/dp/B01MU9ASYI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513018023&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+galaxy+a5
I wanted to know what this is due to; if anyone can tell me more. I'm worried about a nuance I might have missed that could inconvenience me upon delivery.
Thank you in advance!
Best regards
Tanguy

Hello,
There are several factors to consider,
First of all, on Amazon, there are two types of products/sales.
Those sold directly by Amazon (Sold and shipped by Amazon is visible on the listing) and those sold by "other" sellers (commonly referred to as the Marketplace).
In this case, your product is not sold by Amazon, but by a third-party seller via Amazon's Marketplace,
See: Sold by ElecTomorrow and shipped by Amazon.
So it is not Amazon that sells the product.
If you look at the seller's listing:
Trade name: LM-Pro Limited
Business type: Limited
Company registration number: 2329120
VAT number: GB277056091
Phone number: 39958491
Customer service address:

From this, we know that the concerned seller is not French or European, but from Hong Kong...
And therefore, we can reasonably think that these products are originally not purchased in Europe but in another country, and thus, cheaper than in Europe, allowing them to sell at lower prices while still making a profit on their product.
Furthermore, they also pay less tax (for example), allowing them to sell cheaper while still covering their expenses.
Finally, this type of company can sometimes pose a problem, as some sellers may have bad intentions and we sometimes end up with refurbished phones sold as "new" or something else. Therefore, it is always important to be cautious of third-party sellers and to check the reviews carefully.
On the other hand, with LDLC, we are sure about the product we receive and their customer service is probably more accessible than that of this seller on the other side of the world.
In conclusion, regarding this model, if we look at the list of sellers (to the right, below the purchase buttons), we can see an offer "Sold by: Amazon," which happens to be a few euros more expensive (349€), but there we know where the product comes from and the only point of contact in case of issues will be Amazon since they then are responsible for both the sale AND the delivery.
However, LDLC adheres to Samsung's recommended retail price guidelines, as Samsung indicates and also sells it for 429€: https://www.samsung.com/fr/smartphones/galaxy-a-series/
In any case, if the purchase is not urgent, I would wait until January-February to buy it for you, mainly because the new model will be presented by then and therefore, the prices for this model will likely drop and/or a Cashback will be offered with probably a 50€ discount...

Hello, I will wait until January for the promotions. Thank you for your advice.
Good evening,
The lower price is also related to the fact that the more a retailer purchases a large quantity of the same item, the greater discount they will receive from the supplier...
For example, large supermarkets have a very high storage capacity, so it is profitable for them to order more. With this principle, the more they take, the lower the price, which allows them to offer it at a consistently lower price...
This is one of the reasons why the grocer at the end of your street cannot match such prices (it is also for this reason that small businesses are disappearing in small towns)...
The idol of the young has left, he will leave me with a great void...

A big THANK YOU for your incredibly constructive and very quick responses!
I didn't expect such enthusiasm :D
After careful consideration and after reading all your opinions attentively, I am going to buy the phone, but from Amazon, which seems to me to be the most reasonable choice given the "urgency" of buying a new smartphone (old one broken :/). I prefer to spend 20 - 30€ more, and be sure of the source.
I regret not going through LDLC, knowing that I trust them after spending more than [four-digit number]€ on equipment from them, and that it’s a French company (I always prioritize French suppliers even if it means paying more). But this time the difference is too significant (80€ extra).
So it will be from Amazon and through Amazon.
Once again, thank you for all your responses!!!
Have a very good evening!

Good evening
Amazon is an extremely wealthy company (the richest in the world) that has the motto of always being the cheapest. To attract customers, they lure us in with very low prices.
On the other hand, LDLC has a particular clientele and reputation. Furthermore, it is a French company that has many stores and thus employees paid at French wages, which forces them to raise prices.
Have a good evening :)
EDIT: I just compared the two products, and at LDLC, you can use SIM cards from around the world which drives up the price, while at Amazon it’s only European SIM cards.

It's mainly that the seller is registered on the other side of the world (Hong Kong) and therefore, warranties and claims can be problematic, especially if the seller does not respond... legally, they are "insensitive" due to their location. Hence the interest in buying from "local" sellers (Intra-Europe), like LDLC or even Amazon directly, which also sells the product (20-30€ more expensive than this Hong Kong seller).
