Overheating projector Solved

Question

Hello,

I am perplexed ... I have a BENQ W1070 projector that was working fine until now (2 years). Recently, it turns off after a few minutes when using the Apple TV as a source. However, when using the PS4 or a Blu-ray player, there’s nothing unusual ... no interruptions! I checked the settings on the Apple box, I changed the image quality for testing, but nothing, it turns off after a few minutes! I’m losing my mind ... which I don’t actually have!
If anyone has a clue, I would be grateful! Thanks in advance.

Hello to those who have followed my troubles...
Sorry for this very late post, but I took some time to be sure. After several searches, I contacted Benq's HL for my problem. I was asked to perform a manipulation, a sort of "reset" of the projector. Since then, the projector has not turned off unexpectedly, neither on one source nor the other! So, my problem has been solved. I’m attaching the "instructions" that I was given.
Happy New Year and thank you to those who read and replied to me.

1) Unplug all cables connected to the projector and press the ON button for 10 seconds (all cables unplugged including the power cord).
2) After step 1, wait 1 hour before restarting the device.
3) Plug in only the power cable and check if the initial BenQ logo image appears.
4) Reconnect all other cables.

It may be a video format incompatible with your projector:
Delivered formats:
- HEVC SDR video up to 1080p, 30 fps, Main/Main 10 Profile

- H.264 video up to 1080p, 60 fps, High or Main Profile at level 4.2 or lower

- H.264 baseline profile at level 3.0 or lower with audio in AAC-LC format up to 160 kbit/s per channel, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbit/s, 640 x 480 pixels, 30 fps, Simple Profile with audio AAC-LC up to 160 kbit/s, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov formats
so try changing the video output format on your Apple TV

I will try again... with other image formats. By default, the box outputs at 1080/60, I tried 720/60 to see, and the same result, a cut after a few minutes. What leaves me perplexed in all this is that it used to work well, that I haven't changed any settings... Now, the box updates automatically, so a setting may have changed... I will try other formats tonight, I will post the results later. Thanks again.

Hello. I tried the test at 1080/50, and I didn’t have any interruptions during the evening with the box! It seems to be the right track! That said, I tried to play with the PS and there, it cut out in less than 10 minutes. Same thing, went back into the video settings, but everything seems to be sending at 60 fps. At least in 1080. I will try in 720, but it's a shame... and as before, it was working normally before! I still have serious doubts about the state of the VP...

Hi,

Maybe check the status of the lamp... just in case it might be worn out....

But I admit the symptoms are quite specific...

If the ventilation is working well, there’s no smell of burning, and it turns off quite randomly when you seem to be reading something at 60FPS (60Hz)... aside from something that is aging poorly, I can't explain it...

If the problem persists, maybe contact BenQ to see if they have any idea what the issue might be and can guide you in the right direction. Generally, their customer service is quite good and responsive.

Thank you. I will continue to look into the video inputs a bit more, but yes, I think I will contact customer service to find some answers. And yes, I'm also thinking about the lamp; the projector has been in use for two years. Since I don't have a TV, it gets used regularly.

Hello,
I had the same problem, even when activating high altitude mode.
Check in the technical menu the status and rotation of the 4 fans (FAN). To do this:
- press the Menu/exit button
- press and hold the two buttons "World/enter" and "source" on the projector for 2 seconds
Tabs 1, 2, 3 etc. will appear at the top.
In tab 2, the actual and target rotation speeds are displayed. For FAN1 (which corresponds to the lamp fan), you should be above 4000. If that's not the case, you can manually force the target by checking "manual fan speed"
You can also check in tab 4 the number of errors displayed for all functions, particularly those of the fans.
