ASUS E403S Memory Shortage Solved

Question

Hello everyone,

I apologize in advance as I saw a similar discussion (without an answer to my question though) but I couldn't find it again so I had to create another one.

I have an ASUS E403S ultra-portable that is horrifically short on memory... Out of 28.8GB, the system takes up almost all the space.

I have a cloud and a mini USB that are great for my documents BUT...

I can't update Windows due to lack of space. (I can't install it on my USB stick)

Is there a trick? A large system file that I could delete without causing a disaster?

Or a part to replace in my PC?

A laptop with 30GB of memory? That's weird.  Changing the hard drive, that's all I see.

You need to change the motherboard where the hard drive and memory are soldered. You can find a 128GB hard drive starting at €20 and a 4GB memory for around €55.

Hello,

On this type of machine, everything is soldered; there's nothing you can do.

The only viable solution: get rid of Windows 10 and replace it with ChromeOS Flex. This operating system works in the cloud, and with 32 GB of disk space, it will operate just fine. It's the PC counterpart to ChromeOS on Chromebooks. Once installed, no more maintenance; everything is automatic.

Only downside: it only works when connected to the internet, and you won't be able to run your Windows apps; you'll need to use the apps from the Chrome Web Store (there's plenty to choose from).
