Hello,

As support for Windows Vista has ended, I would like to install Windows 7 (with a licensed CD) by "overwriting" Windows Vista.

Is launching an "upgrade" from Windows Vista the solution? Should I format the hard drive to avoid having two OS on the disk?

Thank you for your information.

Best regards.

Hello

Two solutions: the update or the "fresh" installation.
Of course, in both cases it is necessary to back up the data just in case, beforehand.
The update has the advantage of retaining the already installed programs and data. But the disadvantage of also bringing along any potential "junk" that comes with it.
The "from scratch' installation is the opposite :-)

It's a matter of choice, which will be offered at the time of installation (depending on the version of Win 7 as well).

Personally (and this is just my opinion), I always prefer the second solution, it avoids future problems and we have the advantage of starting with a clean slate, only reinstalling what is useful, etc.

Best regards

Hi,

If you have a Windows 7 CD with the license, the best thing is to do a clean installation.
Just back up your personal data on another partition if in your computer you have a C:/ and D:/.
The files would be copied to the D:/.
Of course, you would lose the pre-installed software.
After the clean installation, the first thing to do is all the Windows updates as well as the drivers.
The second thing is to install an antivirus.
And only then install the other software.

An important thing to do after everything is installed is to create a system backup (disk image).

We will get to that on the day you’ve done all this.

For the installation of Windows 7, just put the DVD in the CD-ROM drive and launch it at startup of the PC.
Tap the F12 key on the keyboard and when the boot menu appears, select the CD-ROM drive.
At that point, you will be asked to press a key on the keyboard to boot from the DVD.

For the installation, you need to format the C:/ partition only to avoid deleting your backups.

It’s important to always have two partitions on the hard drive if you don’t have an external drive.
In case of a Windows crash, the photos, etc., are not deleted if a reinstallation is necessary.
