Books loaded on Kobo are not displaying

Hello everyone,
I recently bought a used non-touch Kobo and I'm having a lot of trouble loading books and documents onto it.
In summary, I managed to load one free epub and one pdf, but I can't add anything else, including a similar epub or pdf.
I tried resetting to factory settings, tried on Linux, on Mac, using Calibre, doing copy-paste or other methods, with a registered Kobo user account, or without one. The result is the same: nothing shows up on the Kobo in books or documents apart from these two files and the pre-installed books.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

    You reached out to us today because you want to set up your eReader.

    You can use the micro USB cable to charge your eReader and connect it to your computer.
    Before using your Kobo eReader for the first time, you need to set it up.
    You can do this using your computer or you can use your eReader with a Wi-Fi connection.
    You absolutely must set up your eReader before using it. You will then be able to:
    - Download your Kobo eBooks.
    - Update your eReader with the latest firmware and software.

    SETTING UP YOUR EREADER USING A COMPUTER

    To set up your eReader using your computer, you need to download the Kobo Desktop application, then follow several setup steps on your eReader.

    Your computer must be connected to the Internet to set up the eReader.
    1- Go to www.kobosetup.com on your computer.
    2- Click on Download for PC (if you have a Windows computer) or Download for Mac.
    3- Once the download of Kobo Desktop is complete, install it on your computer.
    Follow the steps on the Kobo setup page after clicking the download button.
    4- Quickly slide the power button on your eReader to the right to turn it on.
    5- Connect one end of the micro USB cable to your eReader and the other to a USB port on your computer.
    6- Tap to select your language.
    7- Tap No Wi-Fi network?
    8- Open Kobo Desktop on your computer.
    9- Click on Get Started.
    10- Sign in to Kobo using one of these options:
    - Enter your Kobo account details and click on Access.
    - Click on Create an account, enter your new account details, and click on Access.
    - Click on Sign in with Facebook, and enter your Facebook account details.
    11- Click on Get Started. If you already own Kobo books, they will be added to your eReader's library.
    12- If necessary, on the Share activity on Facebook page, click on Sign in or Skip.
    13- Click on Continue.
    14- Click on Eject to finish setting up your eReader.
    15- Click on OK.
    16- Disconnect the micro USB cable. Your eReader will finish the setup and the home page will appear.

    SETTING UP YOUR EREADER USING WI-FI

    To set up your eReader with Wi-Fi, all you need is a Wi-Fi connection.
    If you do not see the Wireless setup option on the second setup screen, please complete the setup with a computer.

    1- Quickly slide the power button on your eReader to the right to turn it on.
    2- Tap to select your language.
    3- Tap Set up via Wi-Fi. Your eReader will search for local Wi-Fi networks and display a list of available networks.
    4- Tap the network you wish to connect to.
    5- If necessary, use the on-screen keyboard to enter the network password.
    6- Tap Access on the keyboard.
    7- If necessary, tap Date, Time zone, or Time and make any needed changes.
    8- Tap Continue. Your eReader will download the available updates.
    Running the updates may take up to 20 minutes.
    9- Tap the connection option you want to use and enter your information using the virtual keyboard.
    If you already own Kobo books, they will be added to your eReader's library.
