keyboard is flashing and not working!!

Question

Hello,  I have an old desktop PC that I am in the process of repairing. When the computer starts and gets to the safe mode, the 3 LEDs on the keyboard are flashing (not a USB keyboard) and nothing happens; I can't access to format the PC via a USB drive.  I tried with another USB keyboard, but the LEDs never light up even though the keyboard works fine.  What can I do?

Good evening,  This isn't particularly a keyboard malfunction; rather, it's an indication of a disorder in the PC's operation... Something is wrong..  -- We should start the PC with the hard drive disconnected.. to see if there is the same keyboard LED issue..??  -- One very likely thing is that the motherboard battery has become too weak, if it hasn't been changed.  -- Normally, without a hard drive, we can also enter the BIOS and see what displays... It's a start toward proper functioning...

Thank you for your reply, Jeannets.  I started the PC without the hard drive as you told me, but the LEDs are flashing the same way.

I changed the motherboard battery and now when I start the PC with a USB keyboard, it works until it reaches the safe mode menu where it crashes again. But before that, when I want the PC to boot from a USB stick to format it, it always boots from the hard drive instead, with no results.  I tried several combinations; here is the list of choices:

re,  OK, in my opinion, you should choose USB-FDD or USB-disk instead of USB-CDrom...  -- Not all PCs boot correctly from USB, however, there is more success with bootable CDs... what file do you put there..?  -- The content of the USB key is also important for successful booting; it's not a simple folder copy, there is a structure and rules to follow... So there might also be another reason behind this. I recommend this for making your bootable USB https://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=fr_FR  -- Your hard drive can very well have defects if it is old and hasn't been running for a long time..  I think there are several problems with this PC... You have only solved one by replacing the battery... since now you can enter the BIOS.
